The Green River Boys Featuring Glen Campbell - Big Bluegrass Special
Track B3 is a longer edit on the mono pressing than on the stereo one...

The Crickets - The "Chirping" Crickets
1st pressing of this is one of the Holy Grails of original rock & roll LPs... A gem from start to finish. The Crickets were the 1st true self-contained rock & roll group.

Lewis Lymon & The Teenchords' most well-known record would probably be "I'm So Happy" on Fury 1000 from 1957.

Anyone know if this was released on vinyl in the US?

Simon And Garfunkel - Simon And Garfunkel's Greatest Hits
That's one thing that always really fried me about this album, cross-fades & live versions mixed in with studio ones. Frustrating.

Yep. Give him a cigarette/cigar & he'll look even more like him.

Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison
Had an opportunity once to pick up a clean mono copy of this. It came down to choosing between this or a clean copy of "Eddie Cochran" (Liberty LRP-3172) with the textured front cover. I chose the Cochran LP. Still wondering if I made the right choice.

Johnny Cash - American Recordings
Saw him in concert on Mother's Day '94 in Merrillville, IN. He performed most of this (then brand-new) album during the show. Excellent. Went out & bought it the next day.

Johnny Cash - At San Quentin
Boy, you still learn something new every day. Even though I'm a life-long major Cash fan/collector, I never knew this LP was released in Quadrophonic. Got a few Quad LP's in my collection, but never heard a live one before...

Cash's 1st studio LP with Bob Wooten on lead guitar, who joined The Tennessee Three after Luther Perkins' passing in 1968.

Various Artists - The Biggest Hits Of '56, Vol. 1
There must be more than one cover for this. Mine has a blue cover, similar in layout to "The Biggest Hits Of 1955" LP, CAL-294...

The Kingston Trio - Once Upon A Time
Recorded live at the Sahara Tahoe, June 1-22, 1966. Both Capitol & Decca declined to release it, wasn't released until June, 1969.

Tracks B1, B4, D2 & D6 are not actual songs, but between-song bantering by John Stewart.

There's been a CD released called "Twice Upon A Time", containing previously unreleased additional recordings from these shows.

It is also a re-issue cover, due to the target label logo on both front & back.

The Kingston Trio - Back In Town
A lot of people slam this LP, mainly because there are no new John Stewart compositions on it, but I've always thought of it fondly as a live LP (not counting this version of "Tom Dooley", since by this time, 1964, the Trio had been performing it in virtually every live performance since 1958 & were sick of it)...

He's uncredited on the original LP, but Glen Campbell plays 12-string guitar on these performances.

The Kingston Trio - Make Way
Some good songs on here, but still one of the original Trio's weakest LP's.

The Kingston Trio - The Last Month Of The Year
Mono version is T-1446. I have a copy of each. Exquisite LP, excellent for anyone who wants a little more depth & introspection to their Christmas music. Still a tradition in my house every year.

Re-issued on CD in the '90s & almost immediately deleted. Hard to find, but worth the effort.

The Kingston Trio - String Along
IMO, this is the Trio's best studio LP. To give you an idea of just how popular these guys were in their prime, there was a point in 1959 where they had 5 (count 'em, FIVE!) LP's in the US Top Ten all at the same time. No one's ever done that, before or since. Not Elvis, not The Beatles, no one.

The Kingston Trio - Something Special
Most Trio fans (myself included) didn't like this LP due to the overdubs. This entire album was released on CD in 2013 (minus all the Jimmie Haskell orchestral overdubs)
as "Something REALLY Special" by Rediscover Music, liner notes & session info compiled by my friend, Dave Samuelson.

Dave Guard And The Whiskeyhill Singers - Dave Guard And The Whiskeyhill Singers
Dave Guard's 1st LP after leaving The Kingston Trio. A follow-up LP was recorded but not released. Shortly afterwards, Dave emigrated to Australia. David 'Buck' Wheat (on the far left) was The Kingston Trio's original bassist.

Also released in mono as T-1728.

The Kingston Trio (with Dave) also recorded Track B3, but was left unreleased until the CD era.

The Kingston Trio - Close-Up
1st release with Dave Guard's replacement, John Stewart. Earliest pressings of this LP have a number of typos in the song titles on the back cover.

The Smothers Brothers - The Songs And Comedy Of The Smothers Brothers At The Purple Onion
Although they're noted for never doing a song straight (or even finishing one) in live performance, they did so more often in their earlier years. Tracks A3, B2 & B4 are all done straight.

Their version of "Maria" is my favorite version, even more so than The Kingston Trio's.
They did do proper studio recordings, but their live renditions performed straight were always better, without David Carrol's (sometimes) fruity orchestrations.

Overshadowed by both their comedy & their TV show, both Tom & Dick are very under-rated as musicians & vocalists.

The Smothers Brothers - Curb Your Tongue, Knave!
1st pressing on the black label. I have the mono version of this. IMO, this is their best live album. In my home, we still play Track B4 every Christmas.
