A couple of fairly significant errors though. Track 3 is actually by Danny Ray, and not Jackie Edwards. Track 7 is also by Danny Ray - not The Marvels as listed.

Charlie Chalk 30th Jun 2018		Book Michael de Koningh - Young Gifted And Black	Rated 10/10 Brand new 2nd Edition of this classic reference book about the history of Trojan Records, issued to tie in with the label's 50th anniversary in July. Only minor tweaks to the narrative in the book, but the discography of Trojan and its subsidiary labels has been fully updated (by two 45cat members), and is considerably more accurate than the 2003 version. 45cat has played a significant role in this update. Highly recommended for everyone interested in Reggae and the Trojan label. From Trojan Records: Recently resurrected and now enjoying chart success in the 21st century, when it was formed Trojan Records epitomised the punk DIY ethic over a decade before 1976. With a blizzard of individual labels and a marketing strategy that involved selling product out of the backs of vans, the company spearheaded the injection of reggae and ska into the vein of British youth consciousness. In its first brief six-year incarnation, Trojan produced nearly 30 hit singles, created the legendary compilation series Tighten Up and launched new acts like Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, Ken Boothe, The Pioneers, Bob And Marcia, Greyhound and Dave And Ansell Collins, all against a background of cut-throat politics, cultural division and prejudice. Michael de Koningh (1958-2016) was a contemporary British music journalist specialising in Jamaican music, reggae afrobeat and afrofunk. Laurence Cane-Honeysett is a British musician, producer and music journalist specialising in Jamaican music. Charlie Chalk 8th Jun 2018		Book Jeremy Collingwood - Earthquake On Orange Street	Review Fame at last! Seriously though, this is an excellent reference book from Jeremy. An excellently researched and indispensable guide to Prince Buster's Jamaican singles. Marketing spiel from Dub Vendor: Mind-boggling discography devoted to the Jamaican releases of Prince Buster's productions from 1961's Oh Carolina by the Folkes Brothers to 1977's Uganda by Yusuf Ali & The Revolutionaries. The titles; A and B sides, are listed by year of release with matrix numbers and introductory notes for each year. Packed with information, there is a black checker which will help identifying your white label pre-releases, a list of the Rock-A-Shacka reissues and pages of full colour life size reproductions of the various label designs, as well as a sample of white labels complete with "sound man markings". Hours of fun and a useful resource, this is the result of hours of furrow-browed research and really only serves to increase ones desire to see more of Buster's music reissued immediately and properly. 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

This is the start of Trojan Record's half centenary celebrations this year. This set and 'Reggae' are the first two sets of a six set series. Fifty well-loved Ska tracks over two CDs. No great surprises here, but some classic tracks, and a great CD starter set for the casual listener.

Over the subsequent half-century it has done just that, releasing many of the defining albums of ska, rocksteady, dub and reggae from artists including The Upsetters, Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, The Maytals, Dennis Brown, John Holt, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Bob Marley and the Wailers, as well as the hugely popular Tighten Up! compilations. The Story of Trojan Records is a fully illustrated coffee-table book, containing hundreds of photographs, record sleeves, labels and archive material, much of it not seen for many years. It forms part of the label’s official 50th anniversary celebrations, which will include special vinyl releases, a major exhibition at Somerset House, festival takeovers and a documentary film set for cinema release.

Charlie Chalk 21st Nov 2017		CD Album The Members - Greatest Hits	Review Excellent 'Greatest Hits' compilation issued through PledgeMusic.com. As it says in the promotional spiel: Never before have all The Members significant records been collected together on one compilation. Whilst known mainly for the punk era hits in the UK. The Members had far-reaching hits all over the world. The bands YouTube channel shows excess of 20,000 monthly plays. In the USA they are know for the 80’s MTV smash Working Girl also a huge hit in Australia where another 80s track Radio made the no.1 slot. After years of negotiations this impressive body of work is finally being made available in the UK on Vinyl and CD. The 13 Track vinyl and 17 track (sic) CD with artwork by Buzzcocks designer Malcolm Garrett will be available in limited editions and launched at a party in London. My CD inlay signed by songwriter/guitarist Jean-marie 'JC' Carroll. All their top tracks gathered in one place, with two bonus tracks, including The Move's 'Fire Brigade'. The Mod Ska Sound	Review Superb new double CD from Trojan Records, containing 58 "classic mod ska favourites from the swinging sixties". Most of the tracks will be very familiar to the hardened Jamaican music fan, but it's always great to hear them again. Whilst the set is subtitled 'The Mod Ska Sound', many of the tracks are actually Rock Steady in style. The 16 page booklet is crammed full of information about the UK's Jamaican music scene of the 1960s by Reggae aficionado Mike Atherton, with some superb period photographs, and of course the obligatory label scans.
