George Slv 17th Sep 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Forrest - Jimmy Forrests's Night Train | This record illustrates the problem with valuations. It is rare and important. Somebody was asking $300 on Discogs. Another sale was for $60. Now I know a collector in St. Louis who found a copy at a local store for $10. No matter which value you listed on this page I would consider it meaningless

George Slv 1st Sep 2021 | | Cassette AlbumThe Diamonds - Live And Well | ReviewThe vocals are fine, and they did specially good recordings of Little Darlin and Stroll.
The tape is chrome, normal play, with no Dolby.

George Slv 18th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - For The Asking : "The Lost Album" | To answer my own question. The back cover says the last 3 songs were recorded in January 1964, so they were not intended for the 1963 album release. I wonder what the original title would have been?
I think there are some weak songs on there that would have dragged the LP down, like A5, A8, B3. Some others are mediocre. I fear the LP could have been a flop if it had been released.
Some of these were added to the 1965 regular LP Elvis For Everyone. I'll have to review the original lineup, and some of those songs should get featured videos here.
Thankyou verr mush.
I am leaving the building.

George Slv 3rd Apr 2021 | | CinemaTreasure Island | Since it was a UK production I'd expect it to be 1.66.

George Slv 25th Dec 2020 | | TVStars Of The Grand Ole Opry (1955 - 1956) | I only know that the TV series was named the Country Show. Gannaway may have used Stars Of The Grand Ole Opry for theatrical showings and later for video. They might have tried to use it at the start of the TV series. The Grand Ole Opry disputed his use of the name.
I've added an image from the closing of one show on video showing Al Gannaway. Images of him were not easy to find.

George Slv 9th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Justis - Raunchy And Other Great Instrumentals | ReviewThis is good listening for the type of music. Nothing else on it is the caliber of Raunchy.
There are errors in the compilation due to the new owner not identifying the master tapes properly.
The Stranger is incorrect, it should say The Stinger. The Stranger was a soft vocal on the flip of College Man.
College Man is far from being the single master tape. It omits the intro vocal of "We hate college ....". The volume levels are faulty - it starts off too low and halfway the engineer raises it.
Raunchy is the correct single recording but not the single master. The volume has a wide range and the guitar does not have a strong impact. The single sounds better.
Many reissues now duplicate these errors and Raunchy does not have as good a reputation as it should.
I have posted a volume graph of Raunchy and College Man.

George Slv 19th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Diamonds - The Diamonds Are Forever Featuring Glen Stetson | Does anyone say that this is an official continuation of the group? I know that after 1971 there was a legal dispute with Mike Douglas and Douglas lost the right to the official name. Just as well, considering the travesty he was making of the music (adopting the ugly 1970s styles).

It's not the actor's voice anyway. They also used some stand-in girls who are not even playing the instruments. As a Soundie it was overdubbed.

George Slv 18th Aug 2020 | | VHSUnforgettable Performances Vol.1 1950-52 - Swingtime Video | ReviewIt seems they intended this to be the first in a series titled Unforgettable Performances, but I see no sign of any further release. Their Vol. 101-120 were basically bands, while these are mainly vocals.
Video quality is very good. These were musical shorts filmed for theaters or television in the 1930s to early 1950s. I don't see followup DVD releases but these films are available in many compilations.
Nat King Cole sings Mona Lisa with makeup to make him look less black on some of these Snader films. He objected to the look and and the rest were filmed without that.
Looking at the girls, we get a Connie, a Connee, a Bonnie, and a Ginny before we get to a Teresa. The Dinning Sisters had the brother named Mark Dinning who sang Teenangel in 1960. Connie Haines' song is Duke Ellington's It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing.
Ada Leonard and Rio Rita were females leading all-girl bands. Far be it from them to just stand and swing a baton. Ada holds one but dances elegantly before the camera throughout. Rita (Dona Drake) gets vocalist Alan Ladd to hold the baton while she stands and flirts with him, and does some dancing too. She is a great looker, but not quite a pro dancer.
This tape has been the only source for Teresa Brewer's 1951 Snader film of Music Music Music. The Snaders were all recorded live, while the earlier Soundies were often dubbed and lip-synced.

George Slv 24th Jul 2020 | | CinemaDiane (1956) | ReviewOne of Roger Moore's early Hollywood films, and Lana Turner's last under MGM contract. Costing $2.6 million, it did not seem to have enough substance to warrant this. It was a huge financial loss for MGM, and led them to cancel Moore's contract after two years. Moore then returned to England and became a successful TV actor starting with Ivanhoe.
The film is beautifully produced and Lana and Roger are both eyefuls, it was no fault of theirs.
