Right, R.C.! Do you have this LP? If so, give "Spare Me A Little", "Same Old Song"(opening track) and "Can I Change My Mind" a play. These are the first four in the set and they're real knock-out tracks!, but then it's a bloody-good album all-up!

Various Artists - Cruisin' 1962 Featuring Russ "Weird Beard" Knight, KLIF, Dallas
The featuring of this Russ "Weird Beard" Knight from Station KLIF-Dallas would be a right pain in the arse if he was anything like that ultra-moronic "Wolfman Jack", whose stupid inane rants totally spoiled the American Graffiti and More American Graffiti albums.

Before uploading this, I quickly checked to see if it hadn't already been added by another 33catter. This is the Canadian issue of this album. I do know it has been issued in Australia but I don't know its catalogue number. Saw it at a record fair but didn't buy it as I already had this one. I don't know the US catalogue number either. But by posting this, hopefully it will draw out the other oh-so-shy copies from their hiding places!

Note the Soul City logo on the back cover, it does not appear on the label(nor should it, only the Epic logo should appear there).

The Kevin Johnson track is here in its entirety, it has not been edited. That's probably the reason there's only 18 tracks here, 9 per side.

Tried Discogs but got nowhere with it. Don't think I'll bother with it, to be frank. 45cat and 45worlds is plenty enough for me! I'm more than happy with these two websites.

Record Collector's comment: "Actually neil ktel Australia did issue this record with a different cover". They DID? I'll be blowed! Did you buy that album, R.C.?, Could you upload the labels and artwork at your earliest opportunity? I'd really like to see this one!

Labels now added. Not even K-Tel Australia bothered issuing this one, in spite of the fact that a classic Australian track is contained on it.

R.C., the bulk of the tracks you mentioned came from OTHER albums. Only one(the second-mentioned) came from the album that shares its artwork design with this LP.

Yes, R.C., but how many of the tracks are common to the Australian album? Or are there any that the two albums have in common?

Hi, Kimbozw! Yes, the words do sound quite close. Are you able to understand Swedish? I took some courses in German some years ago and am able to roughly translate German song or album titles to English. It's useful to have a second language "up one's sleeve", as it were.

A thought just struck me(ouch!), who owns the face in the front cover artwork? Could it be Peter Sarstedt?

Hi, Lorangrecords, you've filled in a couple of blanks on this one. As I've said, the copy I had of the single was Danish. I'd been given the record by the widow of the man who established the community radio station I was with for just over 10 years, He was Benni Lind, a Dane and a Jazz enthusiast. His widow, Esther, passed on some old 45s and 78s to me that she had no use for and this gem was among them. I recognised the tune as "You Can Have Her", the old Roy Hamilton song but I don't know how the Swedish title translates into English. Thanks for the info you've provided. Cheers!

Why did I buy this album? I wanted a good stereo recording of an old favourite, Black Is Black(Los Bravos), as a bonus I got the quirky Simon Smith & His Amazing Dancing Bear(Alan Price Set) which was penned by Randy Newman. The other tracks(apart from that by Billie Davis), I'd acquired through other albums on vinyl, cassette or CD as they were "standard fare" for most of these types of album. Look through your own collections and see how many albums carry Whiter Shade Of Pale, for instance. You're bound to find it on quite a few compilations.

Hi, Judge. To the end you suggest, I think I should scan in the front cover first, even though(barring the addition of the "Stereo" notice on the front), the covers are identical. When I submit the front cover, then I'll get you to move the labels and rear cover into the entry, okay?

As promised, I've now added the rear sleeve of the Australian issue of The World Of Hits, cleaned up a bit, to appear (almost) pristine. There wasn't a need to add the Australian front cover, as it's the same(except for the addition of the "stereo" panel below the Decca brand).

I've now added the Australian labels to this album for comparison. Note the title "The World Of Hits" is shown here and that this version is stereo. I will add the Australian rear sleeve later.

Well, there you have it everyone, thanks to Record Collector, you now have the Aussie compilation to compare content with its British version of roughly a year later. I really don't know 'bout this K-Tel mob! They really don't have much going for them in the brainbox when it comes to originality in packaging and titling, do they? If they can show originality in compilation, why not in title and cover design?

Ppint, I guess this one(title-wise could be filed under "oops!" when the British Decca people forgot to put the title on the label. Just found my copy(Decca - SPA-7) and the title is present on the label which is sky-blue across the top(not quite half) of the label where the Decca trademark is, the rest of the label is white. If you look on the front cover, you will see the title, it's printed in red upper-case letters on the chin of the face in the cover.

The Mugwumps - An Historic Recording
Sorry - Must vehemently disagree! The 'H' is only silent in the following: Hour(ly), Heir, Heirloom, Honour(-ed; ing; able). In ALL other cases, the 'H' is aspirated(pronounced), thus: A Hard Day's Night(Beatles song); A historic event, A herbal remedy, A heavy load, A heap of old LPs A horrific sight, a horrible crime.

Roy Orbison - The Exciting Roy Orbison
Earliest Orbison, Recorded for Sun label(except B2 and one or two others, for RCA which eventually rejected him). Interesting that when he joined Monument, he had to record at RCA's studios until Monument acquired the Sun studios(bought from Sam Phillips) in 1963. Monument got the studios but Shelby Singleton wound up getting the backlists(back-catalogue).

I acquired a Danish 45rpm of the title cut some time back. The label was an early Danish Fontana, silver-on-black label but I can't recall if a year-date was on the label.

I have an Australian issue of this with several of the tracks in stereo. As for Lorangrecords' comment, "The world of hits, is a series of records.
Could we change the name of this release to "A Whiter Shade", because that is what's stated on the cover?" The title is at the top-centre of the rear sleeve.

Hi, Judge. Sorry, you got the label name wrong. This is Imperial Records(div. of Liberty), not Imperial House(an off-shoot of K-Tel and uses the old Majestic "crown" as its logo). Just thought I'd clear that up. Cheers!

Duane Eddy - Guitar Man
Hi, again, Duckeggs001, You mentioned year dates. That was something missing off our labels until around 1971/72. Britain had that info from 1958, initially as "Recording First Published.....", then from 1965 or so, the year shown after an encircled 'P'(though Pye persisted with "Recording First Published...." until well into 1965. That was something else I really appreciated about British singles, though that info was not universally seen on all American or Canadian singles and not all European discs had that info either.

Hi Duckeggs001. From the time I got hold of my first imported single(Stevie Wonder's "I'm Wondering" - Tamla T-54157), I've always taken notice of label layouts and particularly how publishing company credits are shown. Here in Australia until late 1969, publishing credits were shown like trademarks(royalty stamp designs printed directly to the label). They looked ugly and took up vital "real estate" on the label which could've been put to better use. Then, in 1969 the put the publishing credit, as one word, alongside the composer credit. This was still wrong! Instead of seeing (for example) E.H. Morris & Co. Ltd., you just saw "Morris". J. Albert & Son Ltd. was reduced to "Albert". The British labels got it right! And yes, I do participate on 45cat, I was on that site before I joined here. I'd like to be able to post an example of how an Australian label SHOULD HAVE BEEN laid out... It would NOT be authentic, I know, but it would be a way to illustrate my point.

Cat Stevens - The World Of Cat Stevens
Record Collector's comment: "I do recall some years back that Decca or EMI here in Australia issue Mathew and son and you got troubles on a compilation".... Would've been a various artists compilation. The other track mentioned by R.C. was actually "You've Got Your Troubles" by The Fortunes from 1964 or 1965 when they were signed to Decca. Those two tracks also turned up on the movie soundtrack compilation(2-LP set) on Stateside, "Stardust".
