rhythmdog 31st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMChuck Higgins And His Mellotones - Pachuko Hop / Motor Head Baby (1952) | With all props to Mike Gann & fredhoyt, added cleaner labels.
rhythmdog 31st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMHarmonica Slim - I Thought I Didn't Love You / Going Back Home (1954) | Added stock labels- it seems the "I" was dropped after the test pressing.
rhythmdog 30th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Squires [Flair] - Sayonara (Let's Say Goodbye) / Mia Bella Donna (1954) | This group is unrelated to the Squires on Kicks, Mambo and Vita. It might be related to the Squires on Combo, but most sources put this group separate from both other groups although all three groups are probably from the L.A. area...
rhythmdog 30th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMMemphis Minnie - Me And My Chauffeur Blues / Can't Afford To Lose My Man (1941) | Not sure if my copy has the same labels so added images. The color seems more like the later Okeh's, and to my eyes the logo appears smaller than in Mike Gann's images.
rhythmdog 26th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMBriant Holland With The Band - (Where's The Joy?) In Nature Boy / Shock (1958) | As did at least one 78, as evidenced by the video within that link! I can only imagine that the cost for a pristine labelled 78 might have been a bit more than for my destroyed copy.
rhythmdog 25th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMEarl Bostic - That's The Groovy Thing (1946) | Also exists on a darker maroon label.
rhythmdog 25th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMRoy Brown And His Mighty Mighty Men - 'Long About Midnight / Whose Hat Is That (1948) | Hopefully, someone who knows better than I about the history of De Luxe and its numbering system will be able to fill in the month of release.
rhythmdog 24th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMTippo Lite's All Stars - Dark Skin Woman Blues / Jumping This Morning | Booted on a 45, not yet on 45cat.
rhythmdog 21st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMChuck Higgins And His Mellotones - Bug Jump / Just Won't Treat Me Right (1953) | Thanks Mike Gann! I guess the printer wasn't in on the trick.
rhythmdog 21st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMBig Boy Crudup - My Baby Boogies All The Time / I Wonder (1955) | As far as has so far been determined, there is no 45 of this release. Perhaps all of the 45's were ground up and recycled, but only 78's have ever surfaced.
rhythmdog 21st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMBriant Holland With The Band - (Where's The Joy?) In Nature Boy / Shock (1958) | Sadly, the labels on my copy are quite thoroughly destroyed, although the shellac is in excellent condition. Legend (received via Candy Kane) is that the previous owner buried several pristine copies of this 78 so they wouldn't get stolen, this being one of them. Sadly, of course, water had its way with the paper labels... There are a million stories from Detroit. This is one of the weirder ones...
rhythmdog 21st Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Crows - Gee / Heartbreaker (1954) | This odd release actually does play the two sides as labelled. Each side had its own separate release on Rama. Unsure whether this also exists as a 45.
rhythmdog 10th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMChuck Higgins - Love Me Baby / I Ain't Gonna Leave Baby (1952) | both sides vocals by Geechie Howard
rhythmdog 10th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMChuck Higgins And His Mellotones - Bug Jump / Just Won't Treat Me Right (1953) | Several Chuck Higgins recordings are written by a 'V. Haven'. Perhaps 'Vernon-Haven' as written on the label should have been 'Vernon Haven'.
rhythmdog 9th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel / I Was The One (1956) | Added another plant variation, Hollywood perhaps (H in the runout on both sides, at any rate).
rhythmdog 9th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMHadda Brooks - Rockin' The Boogie / The Man I Love (1945) | Added the red label variation with the additional musician, Jimmy Black.
rhythmdog 4th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Twigs - Song Of India / Chapel Of Memories (1954) | A variation exists, where both sides show the artists as "Sonny Woods With The Twigs" on both sides. I will add images of same.
rhythmdog 4th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Coronets [Cleveland, OH] - Nadine / I'm All Alone (1953) | Allan Freed promoted this group which is not related to the late 1940's group who recorded on Columbia in the UK nor to the group who recorded on Mercer in the US.
rhythmdog 4th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMCarolina Kings - There's A Narrow Pathway To Heaven / Going On Home To Glory (1953) | Added A side label image
rhythmdog 4th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMJoe Williams - Mama Don't Allow Me / Delta Blues (1952) | This is the same artist as "Po' Joe Williams" and not the jazzy Joe Williams
rhythmdog 25th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMBoogie Ramblers - Cindy Lou / Such As Love (1955) | For unknown reasons, what should have been Goldband #1028-1030 were inadvertently numbered 1128-1130.
Given that Goldband G-1015 dates to late 1955, this might actually have been a 1956 release.
rhythmdog 5th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMThree Bips And A Bop Featuring Babs Gonzales - Capitolizing / Professor Bop (1949) | Personnel as listed on the 78: [translations for squares]

Jordan Fordin, Sax; [Alto]
Sonny Rollins, Tenor;
Benny Green and J. J. Johnson, Bones; [Trombones]
Julius Watkins, French Horn;

rhythmdog 5th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMBabs' 3 Bips And A Bop - Everything Is Cool / 1280 Special (1948) | A very hazy picture of each side at popsike

rhythmdog 14th May 2021 | | 78 RPMFats Gaines Band - Home-Work Blues / Jack Pot Boogie | As can be seen in the scans, someone, perhaps a dj who knew this item to be rare, scratched out the artist name on both sides...
rhythmdog 14th May 2021 | | 78 RPMMr. Percy - Full Of Misery / Somebody Help Me Out (1954) | The promo is a "vinylite" RCA pressing.
rhythmdog 14th May 2021 | | 78 RPMBig Willie - Bogey Man / It Keeps Raining (1953) | Added promo labels
rhythmdog 30th Apr 2021 | | 78 RPMJimmy Liggins And His Drops Of Joy - Move Out Baby / Rough Weather Blues (1948) | The 78 is cut poorly - the grooves seem to use barely half of the available space on the shellac - and is very hissy, too. From the first Specialty series, of 500-525, which ran concurrently with the Specialty 300 series, which- when it finally reached number 499, skipped forward to Specialty 526. The label did the same when they reached record number 700, as there had also been a short-lived 700 series in the early days...
