As correctly said by an eBay seller, Brown's Musical Brownies basically is what was left of Milton Brown's band after Milton was killed in an auto accident in April 1936. The following year, February 19, 1937, led by Milton's younger brother Derwood, the band made its first and only recordings. Cliff Bruner and Cecil Brower were replaced by Buck Buchanan and Johnny Borowski, Bob Dunn was replaced by Lefty Perkins.

14 songs were recorded on that session, two of them with Jimmie Davis as an additional vocalist. The 12 sides without Davis made up six records that were released from Apr 1937 to Feb 1938, alternating with a few records of remaining Milton Brown sides. The two sides with Jimmie Davis were coupled with other Davis sides and released in April and July 1937 respectively.

Like the Western swing/country discographies, we have listed the recordings of Brown's Musical Brownies without Milton together with Milton Brown's recordings. As said in Country Music Records: A Discography, 1921-1942 by Tony Russell and Bob Pinson, "it seems inappropriately pedantic to list this separately".

Strangely, 78discography.com lists all records of Brown's Musical Brownies incorrectly as "Milton Brown's Musical Cowboys", and Praguefrank, like often, echoes the error on his Milton Brown page without checking.
