comes across very much as "the 1940s r.a.f. in space.." - this was also (as shown on back cover of the pan p/bs) and originally famous in the mid-twentieth century c.e. as a bbc radio dramatised serialisation, broadcast 1953-1958.
periodically re-broadcast on bbc radio7^W radio4extra (dab, also dvb) in the twenty-first century. . .

some considerable part of pan's print run was bound in near-identical covers lacking uk price on front for export: those exported to austalia may well have the australian price printed on the front or on the back cover.
some of the unpriced-covered p/bs were likely distributed in the uk-of-gb-&-ni/roi bearing the uk price on initially peelable sticky labels.
