I'm not sure that I could add anything of value to the seemingly endless list of comments and phrases that have been written about that most introspective of albums -- Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs -- but I can try to explain why I've been looking for this particular bootleg.

I recently watched the documentary film entitled "Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars" and when they got around to the inevitable guts of Eric's obsession with Pattie Boyd Harrison, they played a version of "High" that I'd never heard before...and, man, it really set the hook.

The version of this song that I have heard before was from Eric's 1975 solo album, "There's One In Every Crowd," but the unpolished version he recorded (earlier) with Derek and The Dominos really tells me more about what Clapton was going through at the time. I've heard other artists exposing themselves on vinyl before, but I'm not sure that anyone did it any better than what come from the collaberation between Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock.
