23skidoo ● 25th Nov 2020		CD Album Bill Haley - Twist (1998)	CD issue of an album Haley recorded for the Mexican label Orfeon/Dimsa in the early 1960s. Many of Haley's Mexican recordings have been reissued on CD with modern-sounding drums overdubbed, but this release has the original sound.

Is it an alternate version or something? This disc is dated 1992 so this was well before the public domain issues began to kick in in Europe.

23skidoo ● 19th Jul 2020		CD Album Russell Watson - Encore (2002)	Canadian pressing has different track listing (several tracks such as Bohemian Rhapsody are replaced by others). Also, the Canadian CD presents Track 1 as "Va, Pensiero" with comma instead of apostrophe. Is it confirmed that the US version uses a comma? If not, possible printing error on the Canadian end.
23skidoo ● 11th Jul 2020		CD Album Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega (1985)	I think this one should be filed under International rather than Europe. The inlay shows the American A&M label address, and this was the version that was commonly available in North America. Also, in 1985 were CDs being made in the US widely? I seem to recall a lot of "domestic" (i.e. US/Canada) releases in the very early days did tend to be made overseas.
23skidoo ● 21st Jun 2020		CD Album Various Artists - The Sound Of Music: Original Soundtrack Recording (1995)	@Monolith I just bought the expanded 40th Anniversary edition. This version does not actually identify the singers on each track in the booklet track listing (unusually), but Bill Lee is credited as the singer for Plummer. As I don't have the 1995 release I can't check its booklet, but perhaps Lee's credit has been added for subsequent editions?
23skidoo ● 14th Jun 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt And The Nelson Riddle Orchestra - What's New (1983)	So just to confirm, this IS an actual 1983 CD release? Very often (especially during the first decade of the format when LPs were being reissued in the format), it was pretty common for the only date on CD releases be that of the original album. I had one CD that carried a date of 1965, for example but obviously the CD never came out at that time.
23skidoo ● 14th Jun 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt, Ann Savoy - Adieu False Heart (2006)	The credit on this is rather odd. Although of course Ronstadt and Savoy's names are the most prominent, and are the only names on the CD case spine, there's also this credit on the insert front and CD label itself for "The Zozo Sisters". I'm wondering if the credit for this shouldn't be "Linda Ronstadt, Ann Savoy [The Zozo Sisters]" or even "as the Zozo Sisters"? Thoughts?
23skidoo ● 8th Apr 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt - Live In Hollywood (2019)	@kab2112 Quite possible that the bootleg reflects the complete set list, though the recording would need to be compared side-by-side with Live in Hollywood to see if it's the exact same show. I'd be surprised if she only did one Hollywood show - I could see her doing a runthrough before the cameras rolled. What's bizarre is Rhino has released a number of clips from the special to YouTube, and they look amazing, yet there's no indication that the special is going to be released on DVD. Maybe there's some rights issue going on with HBO that's allowing commercial distribution of the audio only, which is a shame as this performance captured Linda in her transition period between pop stardom and moving into more esoteric things like opera (I think she started Pirates of Penzance only a few months later) and (Get Closer notwithstanding) big band music. (Edit: accidentally uploaded this comment as a review initially - oops!)
23skidoo ● 26th Mar 2020		CD Album Bill Haley And His Comets - Bill Haley's Greatest Hits! (1991)	The insert has an error in the timing of the bonus track, Hook, Line and Sinker. The run time is not 3 minutes, but about 2:30. When this CD reissue came out there was some brief excitement among fans that this was an alternate take, but it's just the 1956 release.

23skidoo ● 19th Feb 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt - Duets (2014)	All tracks previously released, except for track 6 (Pretty Bird), which was recorded circa 2010 or 2011, making it likely one of the final studio recordings Ronstadt made before her retirement in 2011.
23skidoo ● 19th Feb 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt - Icon (2014)	This is one of the more interesting of Ronstadt's various greatest hits collections. Since it's on Capitol (rather than Asylum), you can expect most of the vintage tracks to come from her time with Capitol, but the compilers of this album also reached out to other non-Asylum labels, including "An American Dream" on which Linda provided backing vocals, "Somewhere Out There" which was put out by MCA, and the final track came from her final solo album only a decade earlier that had been recorded for Verve.

23skidoo ● 17th Feb 2020		CD Album Linda Ronstadt - Box Set (1999)	I was reading up on this set and apparently Ronstadt herself was involved in its compilation. Interestingly, according to one account she wanted to include the bizarre (and never used) Remington Electric Shavers commercial she recorded with Frank Zappa in the late 60s but couldn't get the rights in time to include it; they also tried to obtain versions of the Pirates of Penzance songs that had been recorded for the 1983 film soundtrack without success. One surprising omission (not only from this set, but I've been trying to find any US compilation that has it) is her beautiful Spanish-language version of Blue Bayou, which came out as a single about 6 months after her hit English version and appears to have been forgotten about ever since.

23skidoo ● 18th Nov 2019		CD Album The Proclaimers - This Is The Story (1988)	Are you sure about the release date of 1988? I'm just about to index the Canadian release on Chrysalis and it's dated 1987. It's possible the album got North American release before Europe.
23skidoo ● 2nd Sep 2019		CD Album Lana Del Rey - NFR! (2019)	According to the Wikipedia article for this CD, it has also been released with the uncensored version of the title. Can this be confirmed? I've had it suggested that maybe the uncensored title is only on the digital version? There's a lot of argument going on at Wikipedia with some people suggesting the uncensored version does not exist.
23skidoo ● 10th Jul 2019		CD Album Bill Haley And His Comets - The Decca Years And More (1990)	Most of the recordings are "master tape" versions, meaning some tracks include some studio chatter as they begin. Examples include "Rock Around the Clock" in which a voice (possibly that of Johnny Grande) is heard saying "One, two..." before Haley starts to sing, "The Dipsy Doodle" where Haley tells guitarist Franny Beecher to keep up the "shake" on his guitar (presumably from another take of the song), Haley giving encouragement to the band before "Rudy's Rock", and my favourite, prior to one of the "Don't Knock the Rock" tracks a jovial Haley can be heard saying to someone, "You got it by the balls now, Guv'nor!"

I note the Australian release is indexed in the CD Singles section. Thoughts before I either post a suggestion that the Australian one be moved to CD Albums or request my entry for NZ be moved to CD Singles?
23skidoo ● 26th May 2019		CD Album Various Artists - A Chance Operation: The John Cage Tribute (1993)	Not sure the rationale behind splitting each performance into multiple tracks (for example, the Laurie Anderson pieces run less than 2 minutes each yet are split into as many as 8 tracks of different lengths, with some tracks running a mere 10 seconds). Could have been some odd anti-pirating measure, though more likely it was probably a reference to something related to Cage ... or an utterly bizarre mastering error!

23skidoo ● 27th Jan 2019		CD Album Various Artists - True Stories: The Complete Soundtrack (2018)	It only took 32 years for a proper soundtrack, but it was worth the wait. I've seen the standalone version and can confirm the contents are the same, just the packaging differs. I was surprised to find that Papa Legba is a different edit in this version than the previous issue of the Staples performance on the 2006 reissue of True Stories; it runs a full minute shorter and ends rather suddenly.
23skidoo ● 1st Aug 2018		CD Album Chubby Checker - The Essential Recordings (2015)	I forgot to mention in the notes that, for some reason, the versions of The Twist and The Hucklebuck included here are remakes from the late 1970s, rather than the original Parkway recordings.
23skidoo ● 9th Jun 2018		CD Album Mason Williams And Friends - Northwest Classen High School Re-u-Knighted! 50th Reunion (2006)	I found this rare item at an estate sale in Calgary along with a couple other privately released CDs by Williams. Given the CD's pedigree the estate probably belonged to one of Williams' former classmates.
