TopPopper 12th May 2014 | | CD AlbumJohn Lennon - Imagine John Lennon (Music From The Motion Picture) (1988) | I hadn't realised Shaved Fish was released on CD. You're no doubt right about it. Only a year before this one, too.
TopPopper 12th May 2014 | | CD AlbumJohn Lennon - Imagine John Lennon (Music From The Motion Picture) (1988) | Got you. But I do think they took it into account when drawing up this set. Only four repeat tracks, apart from the Double Fantasy ones.
TopPopper 12th May 2014 | | CD AlbumJohn Lennon - Imagine John Lennon (Music From The Motion Picture) (1988) | The John Lennon Collection came out some years before this - around 1982. I suppose the track selection here was an attempt to avoid too much duplication, but three songs from Double Fantasy seems a bit much.
TopPopper 1st May 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Tuned To A Natural "E" Vol 3 (2005) | Are we missing part of the sleeve notes? Looks like a missing page detailing tracks 1-11.
TopPopper 30th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Across The Universe (1994) | Nice. What is the "Live in Sheffield, 1964" all about? I presume a few songs are from that gig?
TopPopper 28th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - A Collection Of Beatles Oldies... But Goldies (2001) | These beatles comps are great (this, R&R Music, Ballads, etc) - but are they definitely official? They look like they are, but I'be not heard of them before.
TopPopper 25th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - 1 (2000) | Since the CD has been in production so long, could it be that the bar code was changed at some point?
TopPopper 17th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - 2 Don't Let Me Down (2001) | What a very odd record. At first glance, I was expecting all the songs which only made number 2 in the charts, but then it looked like they were all B-sides (side "2"), but that doesn't work either.
TopPopper 16th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Please Please Me (1988) | It looks too good to be a boot, although it's not impossible. Could be Japanese. The Japanese did/do issue replicas from the UK discography all the time, and so this could be one.
TopPopper 10th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road (1987) | Have just deleted my comment - I realise that the US editions are issued in long boxes. I think it was discussed on the forum, that these are sufficiently different to warrant their own entries.
TopPopper 9th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Only The Beatles... | If the consensus is that this is a bootleg, then can we remove the year of release? At present it is listed prior to the first official EMI releases of Please Please Me etc, which must be wrong.
TopPopper 7th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Only The Beatles... | If Occam's Razor were applied, I think it would lead to the opposite conclusion. Surely a company which has already issued a cassette edition would have a much easier task of producing these realistic CDs, than some previously uninvolved third party?
That said, I do believe it's a boot!
TopPopper 6th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Let It Be... Naked (2003) | My copy, bought in the UK when it came out, says Made in EU, so I agree this looks like the Canadian release.
TopPopper 6th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Past Masters Volume Two (1988) | Added - alternative back cover without Apple logo, which I believe is earlier. Also the CD, which is coloured white and made in Holland.
TopPopper 6th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Let It Be (1987) | Added - alternative back cover without Apple logo, which I believe is earlier. Also the CD, which is manufactured in UK.
TopPopper 6th Apr 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road (1987) | Added - back cover without the Apple or Parlophone logos at the bottom, which I believe is the earlier edition, plus the CD which is made in Holland.
TopPopper 31st Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumJean Knight - Mr. Big Stuff (2002) | The more I think about it, the more I see that "international" is the way to go. For one thing, it is correct these days. CDs are issued that way, so there's no real reason to try and shoe-horn CDs into individual countries. The world has changed, and those of us weaned on vinyl just have to unlearn what we think we know about the various national discographies. Often, it's not accurate to talk about the German edition, the French edition, the Australian edition and so on now that a single version is sold internationally.
TopPopper 31st Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumJean Knight - Mr. Big Stuff (2002) | I don't wish to get involved in this debate, but I do have an idea: Is it possible to change "Worldwide" to the less-universal term, "international" - and then have a sub-field of some sort so that individual countries where it was sold could be selected?
That would mean an "International" CD could be marked (eg by using a tick box) as, say "Australia" and appear in that discography. If someone then wants to add it as Germany, they could just tick the Germany box, so it would appear under Germany as well, and so on...
TopPopper 29th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - The Decca Audition (2009) | I think the presence of the three Lennon/McCartney compositions suggests this is a boot of the complete tapes. I don't think they've ever shown up anywhere legal except two of them (I think) on Anthology.
TopPopper 29th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1987) | There is a barcode on the slipcase. I guess there'd be no point in printing it on the actual case, as it wouldn't be visible.
TopPopper 29th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1987) | Added - another variant of the back inlay of the CD case - no Apple logo, and "Made in UK" in top corner. This copy purchased new circa 1990.
TopPopper 29th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumSmall Faces - Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake (2006) | Have stuck with Immediate as the label (see images) although the product was apparently released by Castle Music.
TopPopper 28th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumLed Zeppelin - Remasters (1990) | Front cover: The "double pictogram" which appeared in East Field, Alton Barnes, Wiltshire on July 11, 1990.
TopPopper 27th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumLon And Derrek Van Eaton - Brother (2012) | PED? Performance enhancing drug?
TopPopper 27th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumLon And Derrek Van Eaton - Brother (2012) | I don't think so. Cherry Red is the parent company but the branding is RPM. Check the scans - what do you think?
TopPopper 27th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumLon And Derrek Van Eaton - Brother (2012) | Why didn't Apple re-issue this in either of their CD re-issue campaigns? It's a darn site better than some of them which were re-issued (I'm looking at you, Miss Hopkin).
TopPopper 27th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumReg Dwight - Reg Dwight's Piano Goes Pop (1994) | Good effort but I hate to say most are probably wrong! The CD was compiled from LP releases, which of course did cover hit singles, but these versions were mainly not released on 45. They are from albums.
Track 1, for instance isn't Pipkins - it's from this covers LP.
Track 2 is from here.
If I get time, I'll go through the rest.
