TopPopper 17th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Love Me Do (2015) | Maybe they're not what they seem? Could be home-made copies? Doesn't want to sell to Canadian buyers in case he's found out.
TopPopper 9th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Best Seventies Album In The World...Ever (1997) | Correct me if I am wrong, but both the UK and US singles billed it as "Paul McCartney & Wings".
TopPopper 9th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Greatest Hits Live On Air 1963-'64 (2015) | I'm guessing I'm in a minority, welcoming these sort of releases. Great vintage stuff, which EMI aren't interested in distributing. I'm glad that someone is, and since they are legal, they are more freely available. The Beatles play Blackpool, July 1964 - fab!
TopPopper 7th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (2015) | Streuth! That means any bootlegger can use a Canadian address as their official HQ, and start pumping out illicit albums. Give it five years, and every Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Dylan etc album will be freely available to them. Not sure whether I'm delighted or depressed at the thought!

Fine album, and great title track.
TopPopper 7th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Meet The Threetles! (2003) | I'm pleased to see this listed as 'Beatles', but really, ought it not be 'Threetles' both because of the titles and annotation on the CD, and because it isn't really the Fab Four?
TopPopper 7th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (2015) | In that case, aren't these are bootlegs rather than public domain albums? Are you saying that in Canada, labels can help themselves to the Beatles' official recordings, once they pass 50 years?
TopPopper 7th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (2015) | So these are all alternative versions - live performance, BBC recordings, unused takes etc?
TopPopper 30th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumDavid Gray - White Ladder (1998) | [YouTube Video]
Super album.
TopPopper 27th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Beatlemania | My guess is, these are not copyright-busting rarities, but the original studio recordings. There's no annotation to the contrary, no repeat versions of songs, and nothing not officially released by EMI. So, for me, it looks like a bootleg. How about Factory [bootleg label] until we know more?
TopPopper 27th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumStevie Wonder - Talking Book (2000) | Does the company consider it to be Motown? Or do they list it as Tamla. Maybe that's what we should go by.
TopPopper 27th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumStevie Wonder - Talking Book (2000) | Is there such a thing as a releasing label? It's the releasing company, who are using a label on the product. Otherwise, "Hey Jude" isn't on Apple, it's on EMI. Like it or not, this CD is labelled Tamla.
TopPopper 26th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumNick Drake - Bryter Layter (2004) | I've never fully committed to Nick Drake. I like his stuff but I'm not completely mad about it, like some of the music critics. Nevertheless, I think this is a mighty fine track:

TopPopper 26th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumStevie Wonder - Talking Book (2000) | Am I the only one who finds it curious that this is listed as a Motown label CD? Surely it should be Tamla?

TopPopper 18th Nov 2014 | | CD AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - The Collection (2007) | I bought this (for a reasonable price, too) at the old HMV shop on Picadilly Circus - now gone. That would have been in the first months of 2008. Fantastic package I think.
TopPopper 16th Nov 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road / Hey Jude (2000) | It sounds like they might pay royalties where appropriate, but it would be news indeed if the aborted 'Get Back' album was officially sanctioned by Apple. And the whole 2-for-1 format seems suspect where the Beatles are concerned. I wonder if they are an official label who also dabble in the dark side?
TopPopper 16th Nov 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road / Hey Jude (2000) | Are these albums considered to be official? Since the series includes the unreleased 'Get Back' album, I would have thought they were all bootlegs?
TopPopper 30th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumRobyn Hitchcock - Moss Elixir / Mossy Liquor (2010) | See original edition of Mossy Liquor here.
TopPopper 16th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Rubber Soul (2014) | Resolution is not good for reading the minute print on the packaging. Inner sleeves replicate the original LP inners. The disc itself is not housed inside the inner sleeve - it is in an additional clear plastic sleeve, inside the cover. The printed strip acts a bit like an obi strip, and is wrapped around the spine of the CD, the whole thing housed in a clear plastic envelope for protection.
TopPopper 13th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - The Apple Years 1968 (2014) | Have you see the track listings? I am majorly unimpressed with what they've done to All Things Must Pass. They've stuck four or five alternative versions at the end of disc 1 - ie half-way through the album. Is this the same as 2001? Why not tag them onto the end of disc 2? I can't see how an extra "Beware of Darkness", positioned a few tracks before the proper version is a 'bonus'. They should have left the original running order uninterrupted I feel.
TopPopper 10th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Four Tops - The Ultimate Collection (1997) | My impression is that the black and white cover is a UK release. There are loads in this series by a host of Motown acts (some are called "The Essential Collection", some "The Ultimate Collection"). The other edition I'm not sure about, but if it's US, then they wouldn't belong on the same page.
TopPopper 6th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Beatles' First Single Plus The Original Versions Of The Songs They Have Covered (2013) | I disagree. I like the concept. This is what the Beatles were hearing when they decided to cover those tracks.
TopPopper 6th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumMartha Reeves And The Vandellas - Live Wire – The Singles 1962-1972 (1993) | How come "Nowhere To Run" has "Reeves" in the artist name? It was issued before the name was changed (also the flip side, "Motoring", doesn't have it).
[edit: a copy-paste error, fixed. Thanks for spotting that! - LD]

More classic Motown.

Classic Motown.
TopPopper 5th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumRobyn Hitchcock - The Man Upstairs (2014) | Have linked my promo copy. I didn't know there was a CD with the vinyl - I guess it makes it more attractive than just getting the CD by itself.
