23skidoo 15th Mar 2023 | | CinemaRock Around The Clock (1956) (1956) | "Rudy's Rock" is singled out because it's the only song by Haley that's performed "live" the rest being mimed recordings (he hadn't recorded a studio version of it yet!). Oddly, though, Freddy Bell's songs don't match the Mercury studio recordings either and may also have been done "live" but are listed as from recordings. Incredibly, the actual song Rock Around the Clock is never heard in its entirety in the film; a portion plays over the opening credits, the intro is reprised in a montage scene, and at the end while the whole song is more or less performed, a dialogue scene plays out over all but the last verse. No wonder there were cinema riots!

23skidoo 4th Jan 2022 | | CinemaDon't Knock The Rock (1956) (1956) | Interestingly, the credits omit the Comets number "Goofin' Around" which, while still mimed from a recording (unlike the case with the Rock Around the Clock film and Rudy's Rock there isn't a live Haley performance in this film), they used an alternate take of the song that has never been released.

Of course they loaded it with ringers like Q from Star Trek so people paying attention knew it wasn't real, but I still remember getting a panic phone call from a friend who thought the world was really coming to an end!
