23skidoo 17th Oct 2024		Video Game Impossible Mission - Epyx (1984)	Isn't this the game where if you die your character gives out a blood curdling scream? Fun times playing this late at night with the volume up.
23skidoo 3rd Aug 2023		Video Game Taipan! - Avalanche Productions (1982)	A brilliant game that holds up well even today. The randomness was impressive for 1982 and it was easy to get sucked into the wheeling and dealing, and the ship-to-ship combat, while slow, could be tense at times if you lost too many ships. I read somewhere once that James Clavell's novel was a partial inspiration for this as well, though having read the book any connection if it exists would have to be at the most superficial level.
23skidoo 3rd Aug 2023		Video Game Adventure II - AtariAge (2007)	Being Atari this could go either way: is this a sequel to the famous 2600 game, or to the computer game also known as Colossal Cave? It's likely the 2600 but you never know.
23skidoo 21st Mar 2023		Video Game Odyssey: The Compleat Apventure - Synergistic Software (1980)	Followed by a sequel, Apventure to Atlantis. I played Odyssey for hours when I was a kid - and I still love firing it up when I find it on an emulator. The game expanded on two earlier games, Dungeon Campaign and Wilderness Campaign, both of which predated Atari's "Adventure" by a couple of years. Odyssey was a true pioneering game, predating the likes of Ultima.
23skidoo 21st Mar 2023		Video Game Adventure - Atari (1980)	I dispute the statement that it was the first graphic adventure game. Perhaps for consoles, but there had been graphic adventures made for home computer systems such as Apple II for several years before Adventure came out. Examples include Akalabeth: World of Doom from 1979. There were also several released in 1980 such as Odyssey the Compleat Apventure and Mystery House but I don't know if they came out before or after Adventure. The guy who did Odyssey also did something called Dungeon Campaign or Dungeon Adventure in 1978 that basically had everything Atari's Adventure did other than monsters.
23skidoo 1st Oct 2019		Video Game Thief II: The Metal Age - Sold Out (2002)	A great game that I think has aged really well. One of a handful of games (along with the original Half-Life) that I wish they'd port to a console like PS4. I liked the reboot PS4 game fine, but nothing really compares to Metal Age for me.
23skidoo 26th May 2019		Video Game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Rockstar Games (2004)	It took me 6 months to complete this game, but it was worth it. Although later surpassed in both graphics and immersiveness by GTA IV and V, this was still a massive accomplishment, with the number of missions and side-activities numbering in the triple digits, and even though the map is smaller than that of the later games, it still feels huge, and still offers lots to discover even after the storyline is completed.
23skidoo 26th May 2019		Video Game Grand Theft Auto V - Rockstar Games (2013)	Not a fan of the online component, but as far as immersiveness goes this is one of the best games I've ever seen. When it came out on PS3 I literally spent 2 weeks exploring before I bothered starting the actual storyline. And after finishing I continued to find exploring the game map worthwhile, always finding new things and events. This continued even after I got the PS4 version and did it all over again! Edit Dec. 2023: I retract my earlier statement about not being a fan of online; during the COVID lockdowns I found myself getting into Online I now play that part exclusively.
