Notes

RW Feb 3, 1968

A Yameta Production
Produced by Chas. Chandler
Engineer: Eddie Kramer
Art Direction: Ed Thrasher
Cover Designed by David King & Roger Law

This the second and final monaural disc of 33 rpm of the Jimi Hendrix Experience simply because monaural discs were discontinued later in 1968. This U. S. mono copy is the rarest and most difficult Hendrix LP find due to the fact this LP was pressed in a quantity of no more than approximately 50,000 copies until Reprise discontinued the distribution of monaural discs of 33 rpm. Although this disc was monaurally issued in the white-label form which represented the tri-color stock copy, this disc was released only in the two-tone color of orange. Furthermore, most, if not all Reprise LPs that were originally issued with the tri-color label were monaurally issued by means of the label of two-tone orange. A near-mint copy of this disc can easily sell from $5,000 to $10,000 or more.

Since the label has that deep RCA groove, I'm thinking that this is a record-club pressing!.....Reprise 6279 and 6280 (The Kinks and The Fugs) came out at the same time and were white label "Promo-only" mono copies..(no stocks)...the other odd thing is that even though they have the W7 on their covers (as does Hendrix)..all three first edition stereo copies use the earlier non-W7 labels....why does this have a W7 label?.....also the addition of "Mono" on the front cover requires a separate printing from the stereo edition.. (and not a mere fold over or cutaway)...a little odd, but not unheard of at all.....John
