A side: The Truth Doesn't Always Make It Easier To Understand
chsp2619 21st Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleLevellers - One Way (Factory Mix) (1991) | Slightly unconvincing remix on the A side-but pretty credible cover on B3

chsp2619 20th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleBob Marley And The Wailers - Could You Be Loved (1980) | Unusually small font for Island. Also only noticed with a scan that there is a code stamped on the label-reads A 020905. Any ideas?
chsp2619 20th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleNanci Griffith - Late Night Grande Hotel (1991) | A side is rather a heavy handed affair-but B1 is assured and has a lighter touch. B2-no.
chsp2619 18th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleRoberta Flack - Set The Night To Music (Duet With Maxi Priest)(LP Version) (1991) | Only got this to have the classics on the b-side on a 12"-they do sound good.
chsp2619 18th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleMarianne Faithfull - As Tears Go By (1987) | Very interesting 12". Sure, play the the A side, which is a darker take on this well known song, but listen to the B side. Here Ms. Faithfull's cracked vocals are set in a late night/early morning setting with distant trumpets and drive by backing. Both tunes are from the soundtrack to a minor film-noir called Trouble in Mind and, if you are in the mood, are worth a spin.
chsp2619 17th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleSteve Earle And The Dukes - I Ain't Ever Satisfied (Album Version) (1987) | Does anyone know why this is MCAS when the style for 12" seems to be MCAT? Guessing that T stands for Twelve. Especially when you look at the matrix and the T has been over-written by an S
chsp2619 17th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleChildren Of Dub (Featuring David Riley) - Greed (Extended Dub) (1997) | Scans added including promotion sheet that tells you all you need to know about artist/release
chsp2619 14th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleJethro Tull - Another Christmas Song (1989) | Live tracks of some interest here with just guitar bass and flute especially an excellent version of "Locomotive Breath"
chsp2619 13th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleThe Cure - Pictures Of You (Extended Remix) (1990) | Used to use this to rock my kids to sleep. That is a compliment!
chsp2619 13th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleThe Cure - Never Enough (Big Mix) (1990) | Terrific A side and I personally enjoyed the remixes of old tracks
chsp2619 9th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleCapercaillie - Coisich A Rùin (Walk, My Beloved) (1991) | Donal Lunny brings his arranging and production skills to enhance this slice of Scottish folk-great sound. The Reels on the b-side are also excellent.
Notice that the label says "Extended 12" Version"-not on the sleeve.
chsp2619 8th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleThe Black Crowes - Hotel Illness (1992) | Just one of those songs that I have played hundreds of times and it still sounds fresh. sounds great on 12" and there is something cool about clear vinyl.
chsp2619 8th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleBig Country - Chance (1983) | Fantastic 12". The extended version of Chance remains a firm favourite, the B side is the curiously-missing title track from their début album.Plus the live cover of "Tracks" is an unexpected delight.
Just noticed that the sleeve is meant to look like a journal. Wood and trees.
chsp2619 8th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAltered Images - Love To Stay (Extended Version) (1983) | Added sleeve with the ever popular Claire Grogan. Love the A-side-sucker for a song that builds up layer on layer.
chsp2619 8th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAll About Eve - Road To Your Soul (1989) | Set up new record for limited ed.
Didn't realise that an INT. code meant that it was a European wide release-is this a hard and fast rule? (already guessing that the answer is yes and no).
In the case of EVENXP10-the wrap around is in english and only a run of 5000- so maybe UK only.

chsp2619 7th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAll About Eve - December (Narnia Mix) (1989) | Musically-another plodding track from band's second album. However IMHO the extra tracks are well worth looking into. "Drowning" is a haunting, piano driven track with some tasty guitar work and there is a terrific rock cover of Jethro Tull's "Witch's Promise" (featuring Ric Saunders on violin)
chsp2619 7th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAll About Eve - Road To Your Soul (1989) | Added scan of Limited Edition slip around the cover and numbered print.
Band struggled with classic 2nd album syndrome-lead single is a bit of a plod and extra tracks lack sparkle.
Actually hadn't noticed that the cat no is different on sleeve(EVENXP10)-but not on the label. Is it worth a new entry?
chsp2619 7th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAll About Eve - Martha's Harbour (1988) | Breakthrough hit for the band but, as is often the case, not their best song. In fact Another Door is better IMHO. For the 12" we get a live version of "In The Meadow" where the band get to showcase their gothic rock credentials fairly successfully.
Plus-love the label.
chsp2619 6th Aug 2014 | | 12" SingleAll About Eve - What Kind Of Fool (Autumn Rhapsody) (1988) | All About Eve were particularly ruthlessly promoted at the time-every release had a host of "specials". I think this was partly because their fans were seen as strongly fanatical. However this is where the 12" works well. Fantastic Pre-Raphaelite cover, a well produced, orchestrally enhanced extended title track and interesting covers. Jane Delawney is excellent and points fans into looking at the influences of the band (The Trees). At this time the AAE labels were normally also well-designed-this one is just plain, but still an excellent advert for 12"s just as vinyl was being phased out in the mainstream.
chsp2619 6th Aug 2014 | | 12" Single10,000 Maniacs - Eat For Two (1989) | Title track shows problems the band had trying to follow up " In My Tribe"-plodding production and uninspired song-bit of a dirge really. In contrast the acoustic version of "Gun Shy" is light and airy and cover tracks are worth investigating. All is not lost.
chsp2619 6th Aug 2014 | | 12" Single10,000 Maniacs - Like The Weather (LP Version) (1988) | Great if you like jangly guitars and Natalie Merchant's amazing and unique voice. Poison in the Well starts acapella and is all the better for it. A Campfire Fire Song features uncredited vocals from Michael Stipe.
Sleeve has EKR77T but label puts the T in brackets-moderator's call
chsp2619 6th Aug 2014 | | 12" Single10,000 Maniacs - Trouble Me (LP Version) (1989) | Probably best track from disappointing album. Second track on b-side features Billy Bragg and David Narcizo of Throwing Muses-but doesn't live up to the billing.
chsp2619 6th Aug 2014 | | 12" Single10,000 Maniacs - Can't Ignore The Train (1985) | Terrific sleeve and an interesting look at early(ish) Maniacs. Features the well-known folk-rock producer Joe Boyd.
