Lee Wrecker 3rd Sep 2016 | | 12" SingleBauhaus - Telegram Sam (1980) | I see that the Flea or Auto_Da_Fe don't like this one but I love it. The throwaway pumped up T.Rex cover was a dance floor filler back in my DJing days and I suppose for that reason alone I have a soft spot for it. I don't have a copy of it these days though so it probably got nicked or trashed as I traversed the underground. If I heard again now I might also change my mind. Nup, I still love it. Here's the YouTube clip of the whole record, they have the video clip of the title track but this clip had much clearer and louder sound.

Lee Wrecker 5th Aug 2016 | | 12" SingleThe Smiths - The Peel Sessions (1988) | I can't be arsed on any day.

Lee Wrecker 18th Jun 2016 | | 12" SingleStray Cats - Stray Cat Strut (1983) | Stray Cat Strut was a hit in the UK in 1981 but their 1981 debut album "Runaway Boys" was not released in the USA. In 1982, based on the band's overseas success (UK, Europe & Australia) the album Built For Speed https://www.45worlds.com/vinyl/album/st17070 was cobbled together for the US much in the same way as the Clash's first album. That record is most of the original debut plus some selected tracks from singles and in the case of Built For Speed some tracks from the follow up album too.
As a result the single of "Stray Cat Strut" was not released as a single until 1982 in the US when it belatedly became a hit on home turf. I'm not sure but I think this EP is an attempt to resell the song after it was a hit in Europe & Australia (see linked release) by adding a few non-album tracks on the B side.

Lee Wrecker 16th Jun 2016 | | 12" SingleXray Spex - Oh Bondage Up Yours! (1977) | A lot of vinyl for a total of less than 5 minutes of music on both sides but they are both great songs.

Lee Wrecker 15th Jun 2016 | | 12" SingleKylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky (1987) | A valiant attempt to instill some meaning into what is in reality a classic example of how the neo-capitalist music industry operates. Perhaps a Dickensian analysis is also needed to balance the overly obvious Shakespearean influences. A Dickensian meta-analysis would reveal the music industry to be Scrooge and if you look even closer the dry liberal economist Milton Friedman reveals himself to be the puppet master of not only the lovelorn Kylophelia but also Stock, Aitken and Waterman as well.
Magic, you need to be more comprehensive in your analysis of the song in order to explain how this song relates to Thatcherite Britain, Reaganomics, the Poll Tax, Arthur Scargill and most importantly Genesis's "Selling England By The Pound". Finally, to quote you out of context this song is indeed "dark sticky goo" but not of the the soul as you have described. It is more correctly referred to as "dark sticky goo" from the bowels of economic rationalism.
More investigation is needed on this one I think.

Lee Wrecker 6th Jun 2016 | | 12" SingleThe Rolling Stones - Miss You (1978) | Looks like the Australian copy is 10 secs. longer at 8:36 compared to the 8:26 listed here. I think 8:26 is the right timing though and the Australian copy is a misprint as usual.

Lee Wrecker 16th May 2016 | | 12" SingleSoft Cell - Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go (1981) | Added a cover scan for moderation and all the other missing scans including the back cover and labels. Thanks to RPFiller for doing the original entry.

Lee Wrecker 15th May 2016 | | 12" SingleEcho And The Bunnymen - The Cutter (1983) | Added cleaner and straighter (just like the new me) cover shot. Thanks to PaulVinyl for putting this one up in the first place.
|
Lee Wrecker 15th May 2016 | | 12" SingleDavid Bowie - Love Is Lost (Hello Steve Reich Mix) (2013) | Added a full set of scans for moderation. The back cover is, however, a variant which is odd as there were only 5000 pressed. My scans are cleaner than the harrisgame's photos but don't show the embossing on the cover as well the photos. So it might be an idea to keep both sets of images visible. I'd go for Europe as country of release as per the label because a quick look on Discogs reveals over 50 of these still for sale from all over Europe.

Lee Wrecker 1st Apr 2016 | | 12" SingleJoan Armatrading - How Cruel (1979) | Thanks very much Graham but I used the "and" because next to the box where you enter the data it says "Exactly as it appears on the label." but that apparently is not the case. If I had not seen that I would have entered the data as you described. Maybe that instruction needs to be looked at if it is not what is expected from contributors? Another one I don't own but have but I'll find a suitable home it for because I do know that while this not my cup of tea plenty of people do love Joan. Anyway, thanks again for promptly putting this one straight.

Lee Wrecker 31st Mar 2016 | | 12" SingleJoan Armatrading - How Cruel (1979) | Track A1 is produced solely by Joan Armatrading but that's small biscuits isn't it? If a MOD is roaming the cosmos and sees this they may wish to fix it. I'm not bothering to send a correction because I'm not bothered about it in the slightest.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Joan I'm A Trading in boring MOR sludge but I'm sure some kind middle class baby boomer types might like to fix this up. Well, feel free to go right on ahead.
Apologies if I have knocked some of Joan's fans noses out of joint but I also don't like the Spice Girls, Ed Sheeran, Kylie Minogue or anything to do with heavy metal. Thems the breaks - we can't all like everything.

Lee Wrecker 30th Mar 2016 | | 12" SingleU2 - The Unforgettable Fire / A Sort Of Homecoming (1985) | One of three issues of the rare Australian version of this single. Not that rare here in Australia though, I found this one among a batch of records someone gave me that were going to the tip if I didn't take them. You'll notice I don't own this and that's because I never will own anything by U2. Just a matter of personal taste. I do happen to have it and it's in my trading (or going to the tip) pile at the moment.

Lee Wrecker 15th Nov 2015 | | 12" SingleBryan Ferry - Windswept (1985) | ReviewWindswept is a fabulous song from the 1985 album "Boys & Girls". The other songs here are from the 1977 "Bride Stripped Bare" sessions and should never have been released but the song Windswept is so good it is still worth tracking this one down.

Lee Wrecker 8th Mar 2015 | | 12" SingleAusten Tayshus - Australiana (1983) | Rated both at 1 because there are no minus numbers available. Austen Tayshus made an entire career out of this novelty number one in Australia but no joke even we tired of the comedian with one joke. Mildly amusing at first but gratingly cringeworthy after repeated exposure. Consign this one to the vaults.

Lee Wrecker 8th Mar 2015 | | 12" SingleJohnny Thunders And Patti Palladin - Crawfish (1984) | What's the Bayou Mix like? The Copy Cats version of "Crawfish" is fabulous much better than the King's in my book.Credits for the song "Crawfish" are Fred Wise (lyrics) and Ben Weisman (music).
|
Lee Wrecker 8th Mar 2015 | | 12" SingleKilling Joke - Love Like Blood (Version) (1985) | The extended mix is bassier and more drum heavy but better for it in my view. A classic track given a good makeover which is unusual given this was the time of adding all sorts of 80's style effects to 12" singles.
|
Lee Wrecker 30th Nov 2014 | | 12" SingleDavid Bowie - Love Is Lost (Hello Steve Reich Mix) (2013) | Excellent James Murphy remixes of some great songs from the Next Day album. Comes with an embossed sleeve and is on white vinyl and is a nice package all round.

Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleHoward Devoto - Rainy Season (1983) | Howard gives us the Manchester weather forecast.
|
Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleTalking Heads - Swamp (1983) | This single captures the band on the cusp of destruction under the weight of BIG suits and global super-stardom - was this really the start of the end of the road (to nowhere). Still a great record though.
|
Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleThe Cure - Let's Go To Bed (1983) | Had this one in the give away pile but listened to it and put it back in my collection. It was much better than I remembered it to be.
|
Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SinglePainters And Dockers - Kill, Kill, Kill (1985) | A well selected collection of covers given the Dockers treatment. This is 10 minutes of in your face Rock 'n' Roll.
|
Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleAnimal Collective - Fall Be Kind (2009) | Essentially culled from out-takes or leftovers from the Merriweather Post Pavilion album. The songs here are much more sombre and less poppy than those on the album but hang together very well. On A Highway is particularly good.

Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleThe Screaming Tribesmen - (1985) | Yahoo! Well, that's me done and dusted for 12" single world until I get something new. Already done 45.cat but Albums world (what I really collect) looks daunting but I'll eat that elephant one bite at a time. Thanks to the Mods that have helped me on the way, particularly nboldock and Orbiting Cat.

Lee Wrecker 12th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleFleshtones - Up-Front (1981) | A great EP to introduce the band but I wonder if Mick & Keef know that Wyman, Jones and Watts have got writing credits on here for "Play With Fire".
|
Lee Wrecker 12th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleThe Pirates - Peter Gunn (1982) | Should have been a one sided single because the version of Peter Gunn is one the best if not the best you'll ever hear. Great cover but the lame Pirates originals bring the rest of the record down after that.
|
Lee Wrecker 12th Dec 2013 | | 12" SinglePainters And Dockers - Kill, Kill, Kill (1985) | Cover scanned up pink but really is more of an orange colour but good enough for the bush?
