Added scans of my sealed shrink wrapped copy which has an HMV price sticker for 69 pence.
I bought 2 of them back in 1976, one to play and the other to keep as new.
The other two scans show the sleeve was printed and made by "James Upton Ltd. Birmingham and London" and the early label with the "45 RPM" sticker.

Probably the first charting 12” single too, in the UK. I thought it was Boney M with ‘Daddy Cool’ but that was two months later. I suppose theirs was the first new one, since this is a reissue.

I'm A Boy is the 2nd re-recorded in stereo 3m 40s long version otherwise available on the Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy LP & CD.

Hi Apollo59. Yes it is. They usually called it, "Mono Enhanced Stereo" (as on the "Meaty Beaty" compilation album). This is usually the "double tracked" style with one of the channels marginally behind the other to give the stereo effect.

Focus B: Is duophonic another term for 'electronically enhanced'? Whatever it is, I've never quite understood why they did this as it sounds so weak. I'll have to get a mono copy of Pictures and been meaning to for about 40+ years!

 Thanks Apollo59 for confirming that.

"Pictures" is in the duophonic style reprocessed stereo on this single. They thankfully left, "Substitute" in its original mono.

As well "Pictures" being reprocessed the mix differs from the original 1967 7" which has more prominent guitar. Proper mono too of course!

Focus B: Yes, it was the first.
Pictures Of Lily might not sound quite as good as an original single (I don't have one) as they lost the master tape and have used a copy master for every re-release since then.

Was this the first commercially available 12" single? I remember buying this one. Found it fascinating! Some early copies had a red "45 RPM" stickers on the label.
Side 2 "I'm a Boy" sounds superb. "Substitute" not so good, my original Reaction 7" is superior in sound quality I think.
This was issued in a 12" version of the Polydor company sleeve.
