(This is all about the 12", not the 7", but...)
(re: Albert's comments earlier) It'd be nice to see the cancelled design for the 12": perhaps someone who has the book could scan and upload the image?
Meanwhile (still about the 12"), on Discogs someone says "There is an alternative sleeve with the picture on the BACK and ' THE ONLY ONES' in cut out newspaper lettering blackmail style letters spread across the cover on the front with opening on the right". Has anyone ever seen one of these? My feeling - it's a very strong feeling you can see from space - is that this is mistaken.
Anyone?

Thanks for the clarification Albert. I wonder if Peter can find a copy of the artwork and publish it, as it is of great interest - especially as the existing artwork is well known and associated with an artistic moment in UK Art history. I found my 12" copy and it is the heaviest (and satisfying) 12" single I have seen. I'd urge anyone to collect them if they are still cheap. Mike Kellie the drummer (and shepherd) was on BBC Radio Birmingham recently, and he is playing gigs.

Sorry I should have made that a little clearer. There is a withdrawn/rejected 12" picture cover as described below. The 12" cover that did come out features the same image - and size of image - as on the 7" cover, and is positioned in the centre surrounded by nothing. You would definitely know if you had the withdrawn 12" cover because of the 2 ladies and the band photo is angled in the centre - being integrated within the whole image.
I only mentioned this because the 7" cover always intrigued me with the weird 'leg' additions which were never explained until Peter Perrett's biography (which is a highly recommended read).

I have a 12" piece of vinyl of this record, however the blank sleeve has pic sleeve sized piece of paper of the above image pasted onto the card. I wonder now if I have an unreleased disc.

In Peter Perrett’s biography you get to see how the picture used for the sleeve was originally arranged on a withdrawn 12” single. It shows a sort of image-collision between the band photo and two ladies wearing fishnet stockings. Out of context it looks very odd with random leg parts (one forming most of John Perry’s body).
