I checked the personnel on this cut "Shake It Up Tonight", I do that, and I was not far off wrong....
Shake It Up Tonight
Producer, Recorded By, Mixed By – Ray Parker Jr.

Bass Guitar – no mention is made of who played bass on this track, but other album tracks list Scotty Edwardswith a huge body of work, especially at Motown, Marcus Miller, then aged 22,
and Ray Parker Jr. himself..... I will go for Ray, due to the melodic playing, as he was a very accomplished session guitar player, and they tend to play bass guitar with more verve than bass players play lead guitar.

......a walking bass line that hits the spot, it just doesn't quit.
Funky guitar in the middle break, which is probably Ray Parker Jr. the producer.
Written by Mike & Brenda Sutton, who had a couple of worthwhile outings of their own as performers.
At approx. 2:54, 3:10, 3:17 and again at 3:33, a couple of those sound effects you'd hear at a circus, when there were clowns around (Ray just funnin' I guess).
His guitar parts are very inventive, although low in the mix, worth checking.
So the whole thing has Fender Rhodes piano, Strings, Temple Blocks (percussion),Handclaps, female back-up singers and Cheryl singing "loose", with plenty vocal ad-libs......
I remember Greg Edwards playing this on Capital Radio 194 disco nights at The Lyceum, in The Strand, central London.
