amandasattic 29th Mar 2021 | | MagazineTime | The first issue of Time was dated March 3, 1923. The numbering system adopted for the magazine established the creation of two volumes each year--one volume covering the 26 issues produced in the first half of the year and a second volume covering the 26 issues of the second half of the year.
From the first volume through volume 90, which ended in December 1967, almost every issue used the phrase "The Weekly News-Magazine" on the front cover, unless the design of a particular cover prevented its use. Although the phrase was not used on the covers recently, it was descriptive of the magazine until the first issue of 2021, which is dated Jan. 18 / Jan. 25 and is described as a double issue. It is also Time's first officially bi-weekly edition. Yes, Time is no longer a weekly magazine.
In the mid-1950s, Time's cover price was 25 cents, and an average issue would have 108 pages, many of them containing only advertising. But by 2014 regular issues were often only 64 pages and double-issues with two dates and two issue numbers covering two weeks of content were beginning to appear more often. In 2020 there were double issues of Time almost every month, so it was not much of a change to make the magazine a bi-weekly publication. Because the traditional double issue at the end of the year would often have dates from two years, Time has skipped the first issue in January recently, and the first issue of the month has had a date around January 16.

amandasattic 10th Apr 2020 | | MagazineTime | Time magazine's Person of the Year award was shared by four journalists and one news organization.
Jamal Khashoggi, whose picture is on the cover of the magazine, was a journalist in Saudi Arabia for decades before fleeing to the U.S.A. in 2017. In columns for the Washington Post, he criticized the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, for his quest for total power and suppression of free speech. On October 2, Khashoggi was murdered in Istanbul, Turkey, by agents of Saudi Arabia.
Two journalists who reported for the Reuters news service, Kyaw Soe Oo and Wa Lone, were both sentenced to seven years in prison following a trial in Yangon, Myanmar. for reporting on the mass execution of 10 members of a minority group, Rohingya Muslims, by Myanmar's military.
Maria Ressa, the founder and editor of a Philippine news site, Rappler, was also recognized. She has reported on the propaganda and extrajudicial killings by that country's president, Rodrigo Duterte. In response, she has faced government lawsuits and violent hate messages--as many as 90 an hour--and most recently, tax-fraud charges that would carry jail sentences of up to 10 years.
Also honored was the staff of one of America's oldest newspapers, the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. In June a gunman who did not like how he was covered in the newspaper, walked into its newsroom and killed five staff members. But while the newspaper's loss was immense and personal, the rest of the staff still put the paper out that day.
