Book
Donald E. Westlake - Enough!
Rated 4/10
In which a minor TV actor commits an accidental murder and complications ensue. As Westlake's comedy/crime/thriller novels go, this is weak.

Book
Imraan Coovadia - The Institute For Taxi Poetry
Rated 7/10
In which the protagonist's mentor as a taxi poet is murdered and much history is revealed. Like Bolano's 'Savage Detectives', this seems to be set in a slightly parallel world in which poetry is of much more importance.

Elias Canetti - Auto Da Fé
Rated 10/10
In which a misanthropic professor marries his housekeeper (misled by the respect with which she treats his books), and bad things ensue.

Yes, they split up in spring 78, then reformed by September. Played as The Doomed for the rest of the year, then reverted to being The Damned.

Jeffrey Lewis And Peter Stampfel Band @ The Windmill
Review
Attended both the early and late shows and, as with the previous two Windmill gigs, this was glorious. Both acts played about 90% the same songs in each set, but in much different order.

Barna Howard @ Servant Jazz Quarters
Review
Barna Howard was enjoyable Americana. Robert Chaney was a revelation, charming performances of pleasingly dark songs.

Scott 4 - Your Kingdom To Dust
I take this to be a single - although one of the two tracks is 23 minutes long

Kid Wave @ The Old Blue Last
Review
An entertaining and varied bill. First up (despite the advertised billing) were Dolores Haze - Swedish riot grrls, lots of energy and lots of fun. Bleeding Heart Pigeons are from Ireland. I was prejudiced against them because of the guitar/bass/singer's 16 pedals, and the fact tht he appeared to have his father as a roadie. They're competent enough, but sadly short on tunes and excitement. St. Tropez brushed aside my concern at their pedal count (27, but between 3 of them) and presented some highly energetic garage rock from Amsterdam. Somewhere between the early Saints and Hanoi Rocks. And to finish, the atmospheric postpunkish sounds of Kid Wave. Well worth the entry fee.. (it was free).

Back tonight after football, and more metal happening (possibly punk in the eyes of the protagonists). A lively crowd watching a 4 piece band featuring a heavily tattooed naked bald vocalist. Can't seem to find a clue as to the name of the band - but the number of cameras out suggest it'll all be revealed on Youtube.

Just came here for a pint after playing football, with no idea that there would be a gig in the room at the side. But there it was - Chilean death metal, and as death metal goes - as good as any other I've seen. Four people on stage, ten in the audience, one at the desk. No idea how the economics work out, but I did enjoy dipping in for 3 songs. Wasn't carrying a camera, so blurry phone images are all I can add.

Various Artists - Let's Cut A Rug
Track B5 says "Children in Need" with no indication if this is title or artist. The internet and Discogs list Children in Need as the title, and N. Downey (taken from the composer credit) as the artist. I haven't followed that line because the artist listing on the sleeve includes Children in Need. Given the heavy involvement of Deep Freeze Mice with this album, I think it is much more likely that this track simply has no title.

I've played a couple of those!

As an audience member, This gig had 3 attendees - a snogging couple who payed no attention to the band, and me. Also attended a Zodiac Mindwarp gig (which I haven't found a date for) at which I was the only paying punter - but there was a support - Baby Go Boom - and both bands watched each other, so it didn't look quite so bad.

Yes - it's not so intuitive.. but starting to create a new entry is the way to go. Start to enter a gig; then enter a new venue.

When the new venue exists, I can move the gig.
