POLYDOR label
Same content and album pose as USA LP MGM MG-1-5406.
This album was simultaneously issued on cassette POLYDOR 3110 387.
There were varying circumstances prevailing in Britain at the time of this release, hence it appears on the Polydor label albeit with the 2315 international prefix which had hitherto been one assigned to MGM.
The album sleeve is a reproduction of the US edition but with modifications to catalog numbers and copyright credits. It retains the MGM logo on both front and liner, the latter giving the catalog number as MGM SUPER 2315 426.
Added non-glare scan of album front cover.

MGM label - MGM SPECIAL SERIES
The above album was issued in the MGM "SPECIAL" series, a lower-price label supplementary to the main MGM SELECT catalog.
Same content as USA LP MGM SE 4251 but supplied in a different sleeve.
The above album was also issued on cassette MGM 3140 115.
The sleeve to this release is an abysmally designed sleeve depicting a US railroad station with no pose of either Connie Francis or Hank Williams Jr. featured.
Numerically, this budget issue is the last MGM label release in the Polydor catalog, although chronologically that distinction belongs to MGM 2353 129 CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS THE BIG BAND HITS, marketed in April 1977. Two months after the release of that item, Connie's material was transferred to the Polydor label and that of MGM retained for soundtrack purposes, until its eventual sale.

The original compilation of CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS GREAT COUNTRY HITS VOL. 2 was planned for release in August 1973. confranfan SUBS 23rd Jun 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Greatest Hits | Polydor took over MGM shortly after EMI's release of MGM CS 8117 CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS THE SONGS OF LES REED in 1970, but it was not until late the following year that the company marketed its first British Connie Francis album releases. All LPs were issued in stereo format, although printed symbols denoted tracks which either appeared in mono or electronically enhanced stereo. MGM 2353 series album liners carry the word "SELECT" to identify the category of release. This was placed after the catalog number on the first five releases, but preceding it on all others, as if forming part of the number. Since "SELECT" does not appear on the labels, the entries posted to this site consider it appropriate to identify the series only. The 2353 series has been followed by one release in the 2354 range, described Polydor and MGM "SPECIAL".
From 1970 until the summer of 1973, Polydor's Connie Francis artwork consisted of one 8X10 black and white photograph, one album cover, one mid-Sixties US inner liner featuring a black and white picture, and one 8X10 b/w photograph; all of which were utilized to make up album sleeves! EMI, apparently, no longer connected with MGM, had disposed of its entire 12-year stock of materials - including tapes of still-to-be issued recordings at the time.
Such an unbelievable state of affairs may have lent sympathy for Polydor had they embarked on an immediate release program. However, given the near two years before their first album, and the release in mono of tracks which had only been commercially issued in stereo, most would agree that this merely served to illustrate the lack of care and cost-cutting approach to the British marketing of Connie Francis product at the time.
There was a marked improvement both in quality of content and packaging from late 1974 which led directly to an upswing in radio plays and renewed interest. This culminated in the record-breaking chart-topping achievement of 20 ALL TIME GREATS, Connie's first UK album to appear on the Polydor label.
It was during this period that some of the rarest of worldwide Connie Francis items were manufactured, in the form of test pressings and, in a couple of instances, proof liners. These pressings, extremely limited in number, are highly prized collectors' items and have been included here on the site under catalog numbers assigned to them. In all instances the numbers match those of any officially released compilations. They affected both MGM and Polydor label releases and amply illustrate the positive change in company attitude. The pressings came with "label copies" containing song titles, running times, composers and publishing credits. Unless stated otherwise, they were supplied in plain white sleeves with cut-out centers.

B2: MY HEART HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN [2:31 VERSION]
Also issued on cassette MGM 3110 043 and cartridge VERVE 3807 146.
Despite 3807 being the Polydor International code for an MGM 8-track cartridge, both box and liner credit Verve and reproduce that labels logo. Album sleeve is a blue dye enlargement of black & white half-tone picture used on mid-Sixties US inner LP covers.

confranfan SUBS 22nd Jun 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - My Heart Cries For You | MGM C/CS 8050 LOVE ITALIAN STYLE and C/CS 8054 MY HEART CRIES FOR YOU were the only two Connie Francis albums marketed by the independent MGM Records. The lack of releases was brought about by the unsuitability of both USA LP MGM E/SE 4472 HAPPINESS - ON BROADWAY TODAY and MGM E/SE 4474 GRANDES EXITOS DEL CINE DE LOS ANOS 60. The former fell foul of British music copyright laws (in effect at the time) regarding musical shows material, and the latter was considered to have a non-existent UK market.

The following items were released by MGM Records during its British "independence" which began in July 1967, with pressing and distribution being handled by EMI. A8: TOGETHER : First recording
B3: MY HEART HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN: 2:31 version
B4: ROBOT MAN: Second recording
B7: JEALOUS HEART: Second dual track / LP version
B8: MANY TEARS AGO: Live At The Copa version
The above album was the third compilation of Connie Francis singles tracks to be issued, but the first devoted entirely to genuine hit titles. Unlike it predecessors MGM C 831 CONNIE'S GREATEST HITS and MGM C 970 16 OF CONNIE'S BIGGEST HITS, it was not based on a US release and was supplied in a unique picture sleeve resulting from a May 1965 press photographic session held at the Mayfair Hotel in London.
B8: MANY TEARS AGO is a "live" version culled from USA LP MGM E 3913 CONNIE FRANCIS AT THE COPA, and not the original singles version.
B8: JEALOUS HEART is the second dual-tracked LP version and not the original dual-tracked singles version.
THE BEST OF CONNIE FRANCIS was the last album to be marketed by EMI prior to MGM's brief period of independence, during which time it was responsible for its own marketing and promotion.

MGM label -STEREO "CS 6000" Series
The following releases in this series are stereo pressings which were issued in conjunction with the mono items outlined with preceding entries. The development of stereo was slower in the UK than the US and, as a result, several of Connie's early albums were not made available in this format. Her EMI stereo catalog began in late 1960 and, in a number of instances, releases took effect some time after the mono edition had been made available. The stereo items in this section were issued in the MGM CS 6000 series, in operation between 1960 and 1966. In 1966 a new 8000 series of catalog numbers, applicable to both mono and stereo pressings, was developed, retaining the use of the prefixes "C" and "CS".
Same content and album artwork as USA LP MGM SE 3791.
The above album was also issued in mono on MGM C 821.

MGM label - MONO "C" Original Series
Same content and album artwork as USA LP MGM E 4298
The above album was also issued in stereo on MGM CS 6083. EMI pressings of the compilation chose to play it safe! It has been entered as CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS ALL TIME INTERNATIONAL HITS, since that is how it appears on the front of the album sleeve. On the spine of the cover, however, it states CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS THE ALL TIME INTERNATIONAL HITS. On the sleeve liner the title is given as CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS ALL TIME INTERNATIONAL FAVOURITES, while record labels state CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS ALL TIME INTERNATIONAL FAVORITES [with the American spelling!]. Should any variations be discovered - whether correct spelling of "FAVORITES" on labels, or amendments to any presentations of the titles as outlined - these will be additionally represented in the future.
The above set was the last Connie Francis album to be released in either the original mono "C" prefix or stereo "CS 6000" series. For the next two years, until the phasing out of separate mono/stereo pressings, a new "8000" range of numbers was adopted for both, but again employing "C" for mono pressings and "CS" to denote stereo. These releases are to be found directly after the MGM CS 6000 series of stereo equivalents to the mono items outlined thus far.
