Sergio Mendes - Portrait Of Sergio Mendes
I have a copy of this album. Record number one in the set came with the A&M label that was used between 1973 - 1980, whereas record number two in the set was pressed with the label that was used between 1962 - 1972.

Happy 28th Viva Hate! Still alive after all these years and still inspiring a whole load of young angst ridden musicians. :)

Sparks - Interior Design
Review
After 1986's "Music That You Can Dance To", Sparks decided to change tack with their usually dark, askewed and cynical lyrics to explore the more accessible side of pop music to focus on love and romance.

Opening up with the searing anthemic rock of the first single "So Important", Sparks' 15th album received much positive criticism from the media and fans alike at the time but sadly attitudes have waned over the years that it is now ranked as one of their weakest albums.

"Just Got Back From Heaven" is nice synth-funk about the afterlife, whilst "Lots Of Reasons" is more high energy dance rock. "You Got A Hold Of My Heart" is a doo-wop number, and "Let's Make Love" is Sparks at their most romantic.

The closing cut "Madonna" is a fictional story about Russell Mael's date with the pop Queen, and it was recorded in three different languages for the CD release although it did not sell well in the European countries.

In the UK, it was one of the last records to be released on the Carrere label before it went under.

Over the years, the album has been re-released on cheap budget labels, one of them being titled "Just Got Back From Heaven" and featuring members of their 70's band on the cover. Why the record company decided to do that is beyond me!

After the release of "Interior Design", they went on a musical hiatus for the next 5 years to work on a failed film project with Larry Wilson called "Mai The Psychic Girl". Once that was put to rest they came back on a new label embracing the techno sound and the charts loved them all over again.

The Veronicas - 4ever
The Veronicas are a band from Brisbane, Australia, consisting of twin siblings Jessica and Lisa Origliasso. This was their debut single under the name The Veronicas as they had previously released CDs under the name "Lisa and Jessica".

The single was also released in the US with a different video to the one below.

Mostly funk rock orientated, a brave move for Suzi although chart-wise it did virtually nothing.

Sparks - Interior Design
The first Sparks album to be recorded at Russell's home studio The Pentagon. With this album, Sparks briefly forsook their sense of ingenuity and innovation to focus on commercial Top 40 pop and rock sounds as evidenced by the hard rock opener "So Important" and the ballads "Let's Make Love" and "You Got A Hold Of My Heart". Though the album received warm reviews by fans and critics alike at the time, attitudes towards it have depreciated over the years.
