Alex Eaton - The Colliers' Rant / The Row Between The Cages
These recordings were made by Bill Leader at 15 Park Grove, Shipley, West Yorkshire, possibly in the summer of 1957. The venue was the back room of Bill Leader's parents, Bill and Louise Leader.
Alex Eaton's wife, also called Louise, was expecting their first child, Felix. In the chorus, Louise recalls that both of the Bills and Eric Sandmeier added their uncredited contributions. Eric was a French Assistant at Carlton Grammar School where Alex taught French. He was also responsible for the marriage of Alex and Louise, having urged his friend to, "Grasp the rose; you'll soon find the thorn if there is one!" This advice was given on a trip to London in 1955 when Alex was unsure about proposing.
