Fokeman 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJanne Schaffer - Janne Schaffer | A Europa Film issue but later reissued with the same catalogue number on Four Leaf Clover.
Fokeman 23rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJanne Schaffer - Janne Schaffer's Andra LP | This was later reissued with the same catalogue number on the Four Leaf Clover label.

This Italian MCA label is, I assume, the stock version rather than a promo label
No, this is the promo version (Vietata La Vendita).
Fokeman 22nd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRobbie O'Connell - Close To The Bone | Well if you rescued this, you were well rewarded. A wonderful folk album with brilliant instrumentation and musicality.
Fokeman 22nd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumDon McLean - Homeless Brother | Song credits for George Harrison and A. Glenn (Artie Glenn) are both wrongly attributed on the labels. Correctly attributed on the rear of sleeve.
Fokeman 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBilly Hanafin's Shamrock Band - Traditional Irish Long Dances | Maybe you right, maybe you ain't. I took a train from New York to N.J once and it didn't take very long.
Fokeman 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumBilly Hanafin's Shamrock Band - Traditional Irish Long Dances | Approximately September 1961 from RCA Custom Pressing information. Pressed in New York. Not too far from the Boston headquarters of Copley / Gael Records
Fokeman 19th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRoyal Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted By René Leibowitz - The Nine Symphonies Of Beethoven | RCA pressing details suggest a 1961 pressing. What could explain the 5 years difference?
Fokeman 18th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Smash Internment And Injustice | I suppose I should add that this was not just an Outlet subsidiary but also Release. R & O - Release and Outlet.
Fokeman 18th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumStray - Stray | I've added original labels and sorted out the images with tape on them or which have the die-cut damaged.
Fokeman 17th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJethro Tull - WarChild II | Made in Germany, but I'm not sure this qualifies as being exclusively a German issue. I think it was/is available to be bought in France and the rest of Europe, so that is probably a fair compromise. Note also that as well as the GEMA rights collection agency mentioned, there is MCPS, which would accord it a UK issue too.
On the rear of sleeve, bottom left, it refers to Parlophone Ltd. which must surely be a UK company with the Ltd. company status for UK tax purposes.
Fokeman 17th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumGentle Giant - Octopus | We can date the first issue of this German version to 1972. If anyone has images of the original issue, we can put them on this same page. The catalogue number is identical.
Fokeman 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Tribute To Gary Glitter | In my defence. This was sent with something I actually wanted. No money passed hands for this offensive relic.
Fokeman 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Halliard - It's The Irish In Me | Yes SAGA SOC with STSOC as the prefix on the label and just SOC 1058 on the back of the sleeve.
Fokeman 16th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumRoddy Woomble - My Secret Is My Silence | This is possibly one of the finest albums I've ever listened to. The contributions by Kate Rusby & co. only add to its power. The range of moods is incredible with loud aggressive guitar and gentle, quiet acoustic tracks. I think I'd have to plump for Waverley Steps as my favourite. I could listen to that one track non-stop for an hour without being bored. Oh no, wait! Much as I love that one, "As Still As I Watch Your Grave" is the one with so much punch you have to listen to it again. Perhaps this is best on CD so you can just press the button and listen again?

"...the recordings are, from every standpoint, top quality."
Yeah, right!
Fokeman 12th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumAnthony Phillips - Wise After The Event | It seems "Hunt Reprise" was pulled from some other issues of this LP.
Fokeman 10th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Second Wave | I also have a white label TP of this record, but there's nothing much to look at. It does demonstrate that the test pressing had the same stamping pattern on it, so anyone who advertises a copy with "1st Pressing" is rather stating the obvious, since there clearly was only one pressing.
Fokeman 9th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumUriah Heep - Salisbury | For those wondering, the large letter U is the price code. At the time, the industry was regulated with universal codes for selling records. The code indicated the price and if the price went up the code continued to represent the price. A bit like buying greetings cards in Woolies or wherever you bought greetings cards. Hallmark for example.
Fokeman 7th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumLucy And Carly Simon - The Simon Sisters Sing For Children | Yes, it was right after Carly had top five hits with "You're so Vain" and then "The Right Thing To Do" from her highly successful album "No Secrets".
Fokeman 7th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Slógadh Náisiúnta 78 | This was notable for having a very young Martin Hayes playing fiddle and an early recording of Iarla O'Lionaird, both of whom went on to find stardom with numerous recordings now under their belts. Iarla joined the Afro-Celt Sound System as singer. Martin Hayes was senior all Ireland Champion of fiddling for two consecutive years, joined the Tulla Ceili Band as a youth and is currently a member of the Irish American Supergroup - The Gloaming.
Fokeman 6th Feb 2024 | | 78 RPMElton Hayes - All Round My Hat / The Unquiet Grave | Traditional is a composer. Or at least if we know it is traditional it is what we put in the composer credit field. We also put Traditional, Arr. Name if we know the name of the arranger of traditional material.
Fokeman 5th Feb 2024 | | 78 RPMThe Irish All Stars - Miss Mc Leod's Reel / The Irish Washerwoman | I think they were all made as unbreakable discs at this time. They are 78rpm discs but late and made with a fairly brittle vinyl, not shellac.
Fokeman 4th Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumAviator [UK] - Aviator | Excellent sax and guitar based prog with a popular feel. Reminiscent of Steely Dan at times.
Fokeman 3rd Feb 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Stewart Ross Dance Band - Memories Country Style | Can we double check the date on this. I would estimate it was 1973 rather than 1971
Fokeman 27th Jan 2024 | | Live MusicPeter Bruntnell And James Walbourne @ The Borderline | This was Peter Bruntnell as it says on the poster, not Peter Broderick.
Fokeman 22nd Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumChris Sandford - A Little Bit Off The Top Of Chris Sandford | A good, fairly comprehensive biography of the singer/comedian in the sleeve notes.
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The British Isles | Spot the errors. Dave Swarbrick was never Scottish. Royston & Heather Wood are both English. Hamish Imlach was Scottish. John Renbourn was English not Scottish. Gerry Rafferty was Scottish not English. Jimmy Cooper played the hammered dulcimer in England not Scotland.
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Heads And Tales | Title clearly says Heads And Tales not Tails
Fokeman 13th Jan 2024 | | 12" SingleEqua - In The Red | It does actually give Mr. Fox as the copyright owner with a full stop after Mr to make the point that it is an abbreviation. I think that Mr. Fox should probably be considered as the label.
