George Slv 21st Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumClyde McPhatter - Rhythm And Soul | Added all the rest of the tracks.

Go ahead and look up my linked catalog.

George Slv 21st Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConway Twitty - The Conway Twitty Touch | A great description of Conway on the cover:
"He is that rare combination of warmth and wildness, strength and gentleness, humor and humility. A man whose life is full and rich - yet a man who will always search and be lonely."

George Slv 20th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConway Twitty - Hit The Road! | The Pick-Up is really an awesome rocker. Hear it second of 4 songs @1:51 from GSilverWorld [YouTube Video]
As soon as people start hearing it they start saying it's their favorite Conway Twitty song.

George Slv 19th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConway Twitty - The Conway Twitty Touch | Platinum High School was from his 1960 movie. When I saw it on TV the song had been removed. Did anyone see it with the song? I figure it may have been sung out of a jukebox in the cafeteria scene.
|
George Slv 19th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConway Twitty - The Conway Twitty Touch | MGM perversely left out the hit C'est Si Bon from any of these albums.
Only Man Alone here appeared on a single, it did not chart, and it was the beginning of his end on MGM.
It's mainly songs recorded for the album, and it became predictably obscure.

George Slv 18th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConway Twitty - Portrait Of A Fool | This seems like his scarcest MGM album. The cover notes try to put a brave face on it, talking about his "most recent hit" ... which was not. He hadn't had one in over a year and it was over.
Altho A Million Teardrops was played in my area and was hit material.
There would be two more MGM albums after this.

George Slv 16th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Aloha From Teresa | That's correct about AS. I see another LP that has BMI in one of those spots.
|
George Slv 14th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumConnie Francis - Sings Irish Favorites | A beauty of a cover portrait. Hard to find a perfect full image on the web. I should have one that's not marred.
|
George Slv 12th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Aloha From Teresa | Does anyone know what the AS means after the timings?
And why is the cover image not being shown in search lists?
|
George Slv 9th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBobby Lee Trammell - Bobby Lee Trammell | What was the difference between Bison Bop and Buffalo Bop?
German translation problem?
|
George Slv 8th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPeggy Lee - Peggy Lee's Greatest | These were the audio from her Snader music films of 1950.
See peggyleediscography.
Hear the audio for I Only Have Eyes For You from this LP.
|
George Slv 7th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumLiving Guitars - The Big Guitar Sound | Don't be fooled by the titles, the sound had nothing whatsoever to do with rock and roll. Caiola did not use his Duane Eddy style big guitar sound.
Big Guitar here is the 1958 instrumental released by Owen Bradley and others.
|
George Slv 7th Jan 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPeggy Lee - Pass Me By | Bewitched was the theme from the TV show.
A3 was the Tony Bennett hit. Nat King Cole released B2 and B3.
(Never heard of B1)
|
George Slv 2nd Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - (Put Another Nickel In) Music! Music! Music! / Gonna Get Along Without You Now | There is uncertainty about the date of this issue. The Teresa Brewer Center says 1953. Osborne and Hamilton 3rd edition singles says 1963 (ha).
|
George Slv 30th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Time For Teresa | ReviewA less common album, I suppose because it only contained one big hit of the day, You Send Me. It collected some other singles including early 1950s like B3 and B4.
A5 and A6 were Lawrence Welk recordings with Teresa guest soloist. A5 deserves more attention than it got. The two were on the 1957 Welk LP "The Stars Visit Lawrence Welk", not on any single.
Hear The Lingering Song.
The album is now available digitally.

George Slv 26th Dec 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Kissing Jessica Stein | Okay jaimeeduardo, you left out the possibility that I never expected that info to be there. I tracked it down anyway, and I've ordered this single:
http://www.45cat.com/record/930059
An obscure but valuable release, which apparently was not on any album at the time.
I had checked for a rerecording on Bewitching-Lee, but not.

George Slv 18th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPeggy Lee - The Hits Of Peggy Lee | Starline was a reissue compilation label. This Hits LP was a wasted opportunity. Look at these selections. A2? A4? B3?
This is not a reissue of nothin. As I say, it is a compilation.
|
George Slv 17th Dec 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Kissing Jessica Stein | This recording of Peggy Lee - I Don't Know Enough About You - which year was it recorded, and where found? It's not the early original and I can't find another.
Sounds like ~1960, much better production.
|
George Slv 16th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Medallion Strings - The Sound Of Hollywood | These are amazingly beautiful performances for such an obscure release.
Was this recorded in England? It was associated with London Records.
For Canadians, this Carnival theme was the theme for CBC TV's Saturday evening Great Movies. Hear the archive sample here.
|
George Slv 15th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJoanie Sommers - Johnny Get Angry | She had a single named Little Girl Bad, that they should have put on here. I keep wondering if they kept confusing it with Little Girl Blue, which is a totally lame-ass show tune from an album. Same for some compilation CDs.
Her pop albums were shitty jazz and no wonder she didn't get far. Says something about WB at the time, who thought they could succeed with albums and flunked.
|
George Slv 15th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumDiane Ray - The Exciting Years | This included followup singles to her hit. Issued half a year after her Lifeguard hit, it didn't stand a chance and is very scarce. That's worse than the Dixie-Cups' Chapel of Love LP performance.
|
George Slv 13th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumSpencer Ross And His Orchestra - Spencer Ross And His Orchestra | Spencer Ross was a pseudonym for Robert Mersey. Saxophone solos by Jimmy Abato except on A6. Tracy's Theme was the hit.
Stereo release CS 8325.
Hear archive sample of Your Continental Touch.

George Slv 13th Dec 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumLes Baxter - Ports Of Pleasure | Some kind of abridged issue with two tracks missing, same as mine unfortunately. Made me think it was a later reissue.
The album was 1957 mono only.
