|
Kevin Walsh1 5th Mar 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJoan Baez - Joan Baez In Concert / Part 2 | If you look at the upper left corner of the liner, you’ll see that this is the SECOND EDITION. I also own the implicit first edition, which has this side two running order:
1. Long Black Veil 2:55
2. Railroad Bill 2:02
3. Rambler-Gambler 1:48
4. Fennario 3:40
5. ‘Nu Bello Cardillo 3:14
6. Three Fishers 2:45
7. Hush Little Baby 2:00
8. Battle Hymn Of The Republic 2:45
Both the label and liner show this sequence. Despite this different running order, my matrix numbers match the RCA numbers shown above. This revision occurred by Nov. 1964, because the shorter track listing appeared on the liner of Joan’s next album, “5”, which was issued then.
I assume that this calls for an entirely new entry (which I’m not going to try right now).

Kevin Walsh1 29th Jan 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumVicki Brown - From The Inside | From Shel Talmy’s Facebook post today:
The “From the Inside” LP that I produced with Vicki, was recorded at Morgan Studios in a series of sessions in early 1977, and released later that year.
The engineer was Martin Levan with Chris Tsangarides, his assistant.
The arrangements were done in a rehearsal hall by me and the band, and as we all knew each other well, they came together quickly.
The bass player was Rick Wills, with John Field on the congas and Dave Hynes on the drums.
Two acoustic guitars were played by Joe Brown (Vicki’s husband) and Roger McKew. Joe also played mandolin and slide guitar.
The two electric guitarists were Zed Jenkins and Steve Marriott (yes, that Steve Marriott!) Steve additionally played organ and harp (harmonica). Tony Williams was the pianist.
The various backing vocalists we used included Zoot Money, Jim Leverton, Joanne Stone, Joy Yates, Liza Strike, Madeline Bell, Simon Bell and Stevie Langer
We featured orchestral string and horn accompaniment on most tracks, although it is just strings on this song. The arrangers were Brian Rogers and Steve Gray.
‘Walkin’ In The Sun’ was written by legendary Brill Building composer Jeff Barry, who famously teamed with Ellie Greenwich to write many hit songs. This however was written solo, and he released his own version in 1973. The great soul singer Percy Sledge also recorded a version in 1974, although to be fair his vocal did not scale the heights that Vicki reached on hers!
All agreed the LP had turned out great and we were optimistic that it would become a chart entry.
The record company was Power Exchange, aimed at our biggest market, America. But they went out of business just after the album was to be released. End of our hopes. Yes, the LP got lots of play, but without a structure in place, it was a non-event.
