LaurenceD SUBS ● 29th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRay Charles, Mojo Buford - On Stage At The Palladium | Runouts:
side 1: V-519-1 A-0102-A
side 2: V-519-2 A-0102-B
Despite the 'stereo' designation, all of the tracks are mono.
There are two versions of the cover:
- (other) front has yellow and red lettering;
- track titles on back mostly match those on the front
- last paragraph on back cover mentions "Mo Jo and the Mo Jo Chi Fours"
- (mine as posted) front has yellow, red & blue lettering;
- track titles on back completely different from those on the front;
- last paragraph mentioning "Mo Jo" is omitted
To conclude, this release is somewhat notorious for its deceptive presentation, but as it turns out, the Mojo Buford tracks are pretty good and make it worth keeping.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 22nd Jun 2021 | | 78 RPMFred Bergin - The Doggie In The Window / Waltz Serenade | Probably released in 1953, as both "Doggie In The Window" and Riccardo Drigo's "Serenade" were popular right around that time.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 22nd Jun 2021 | | 78 RPMArtur Balsam And Members Of The Guilet Quartet - Excerpt From Piano Quartet Opus 2 / Excerpt From Serenade No. 1, D Major, Opus 11 | Side 2 ends with a spoken comment about these sample excerpts and Concert Hall recordings in general.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 22nd Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumFleetwood Mac - They Play On | According to the BBC website, this was actually recorded at the Paris Theatre in March 1970.
I recorded my own copy of this concert from an FM radio broadcast, and this boot sounds like the same broadcast... only things missing are the station breaks, and a few bits of dialog between songs. I'm guessing that the source for the broadcast was this BBC transcription disc.
On the plus side, for this release they did include all of the introductions and commentary from host Dave Symonds, which I think were omitted from the 'official' release.
On the minus side, it sounds like someone used a noise filter to remove hiss from the broadcast, and as a result some of the quieter parts (especially during World In Harmony & Green Manalishi) have been rendered inaudible.
Also, track 8 is actually the Willie Dixon song "You Need Love", from a different BBC broadcast ca. 1968.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 19th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumFleetwood Mac - Mystery To Me | I see that Bob Welch's track "Good Things (Come to Those Who Wait)", which was bumped in favor of "For Your Love", was finally reissued in 2020 as a bonus track in the 8-CD set Fleetwood Mac 1969-1974.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Nelson [Ventriloquist] - Instant Ventriloquism And Ventriloquism For The Beginner | Yikes... at least the labels look good. Hello edlongus, I have posted scans from a non-contaminated cover, along with the two inserts. The blue insert also contains 6 additional pages of dialog for the various routines, which I did not upload. If somebody really wants them I can provide those as well. I was actually surprised that this LP was already posted here; Though I admit that I'm not really into ventriloquism, I picked up this LP because I like Jimmy Nelson.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDon Ellis - Shock Treatment | I have posted here the second/corrected version of this LP. The first version, with a different track selection and various edits, was issued without Ellis' knowledge and was apparently reviewed as-is in Downbeat. Upon Don's request, Columbia reissued the LP with the tracks as Don had originally intended (and with the same cat#). You can read about the details here.
I have not yet determined just when this second version was issued. Also, I have read that there were some interim pressings that contained the newly mastered disc, but still had the old liner notes that referred to the old track listings. I have not seen one of those...
Runouts for this version: XSM136645-2F / XSM136646-2D

LaurenceD SUBS ● 16th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumMalcolm Arnold - The Bridge On The River Kwai | The cover front { 2671335 } that I posted is from the first issue I think, as it lacks the "Academy Award Winning Score" bit.

|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Beasley - Twist With Jimmy Beasley | Added scans of the (earlier?) labels and 'twist' back cover, that was used for several of Crown's twist-related releases. Interesting to note that this back cover design was almost a straight copy from the Atlantic 8054 LP, liner notes and all.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 7th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And His Comets - Rockin' The Oldies | Added scans of an unblemished back cover with respect to caseellerbroek. It just so happens that on my copy, the front of the cover has writing all over it...

LaurenceD SUBS ● 7th Jun 2021 | | Classical ItemBerliner Philharmoniker, Herbert Von Karajan - Haydn | Fritz Wunderlich had recorded most of the solo parts for the role of Uriel before his fatal accident in September of 1966. The remaining parts, mainly trios and recitatives, were later completed by Werner Krenn.
There is a 1965 recording of this work from the Salzbug Festival also featuring Wunderlich for those who would like to hear him sing the role in its entirety.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 1st Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPeggy Lee - Raindrops | Added scans for back cover and labels.
I don't suppose that the performers on such records as these had any say or were even aware of the products being promoted. Placidyl (Ethchlorvynol) was very addictive and frequently abused back in the day...

LaurenceD SUBS ● 29th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us | The original cover is pretty easy to spot. Besides listing the first track as "Drug Train" instead of "TV Set", the text is white on the front and blue on the back.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 27th May 2021 | | 78 RPMBill Pannell - I'm Goin' Back To Dayton / Empty Dreams | "Allen King" appears to be a variant spelling of Allan King, who was a frequent vocalist for Bill Pannell.
My copy is pressed on an ochre-colored material, which I presume is Memolite, introduced by Memo in 1948, so I have set the release year accordingly, given no other information about this issue.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 27th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm - Pete Fountain Presents Jack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm | Added alternate labels.
Just my opinion, but I would prefer to see Jack Sperling included somehow in the artist field, to make searching easier. [Mod: Amended]

LaurenceD SUBS ● 19th May 2021 | | 12" SingleStevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble - Look At Little Sister | I'm assuming that this USA release is promo-only, not sure though. Was the EAS prefix only used for promo releases?
I set "Little Sister" as the top side, but... does anyone know the significance of that little 'triangle' symbol on the "Say What" side ? I see these on several of the Columbia & Epic releases from this period.
