LaurenceD SUBS 28th Dec 2020 | | 78 RPMVarious Artists - Songs By Johnny Mercer | Jo Stafford is credited on three sides, but as a member of The Pied Pipers you can hear her singing several solo verses on all sides with the possible exception of side 8.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Wildcat | The Broadway production of Wildcat was beset with problems, mainly due to Lucille Ball's health. She clearly was not up to the rigor required for a lengthy run of a musical. Not to mention that she was not really a singer or a dancer... More can be read at Wikipedia and at NY Times.

LaurenceD SUBS 28th Dec 2020 | | CD AlbumCaptain Beefheart And The Magic Band - The Spotlight Kid / Clear Spot | Noting the rim text on my copy's disc: 9 26249-2-DJ / Promotion Only. Not For Sale.
LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Dec 2020 | | CD AlbumThe Byrds - Never Again | Those composer credits should be taken with a grain of salt...
Tracks 12 & 16 are rather questionable - both sound like a female vocalist backed by a band that sounds kind of like The Byrds, but I doubt that it's really them. The main problem is the 12-string, which does not sound like a Rickenbacker, has no compression, and is being strummed rather than picked. I think that these two tracks were also included on that Byrds On The Wyng bootleg LP.
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Dec 2020 | | Classical ItemBBC Symphony Orchestra, Lionel Friend - Havergal Brian: Symphony No.3 | The tracks listed as [untitled] refer not to movements, but to index markers in the liner notes, e.g. "... from the long opening bass clarinet theme [18] through episodes magically remote ...".
The only CD I have so far that separates tracks in this fashion.

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Jimi Hendrix Experience / Otis Redding - Historic Performances Recorded At The Monterey International Pop Festival | Added back cover scan with barcode; this corresponds to the label images { 2487398, 2487399 }
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSam Cooke - Soul Collection | The box/slip-cover opens on the right side; The individual record sleeves seem to open on the left side, so I have ordered the sleeve images accordingly.
Sorry but my copy is missing the obi.

LaurenceD SUBS 9th Dec 2020 | | CD AlbumBuzzcocks - Chronology | FYI, I have just added the UK version here. Same barcode, same insert/booklet - only differences are the inlay and disc. So if we want to make this international and merge the two, we could just keep my inlay and disc scans and discard the rest.

LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dr. Demento Presents The Greatest Novelty Records Of All Time | Later pressings (1987 & later) replace the Rodney Dangerfield track on B1 with "Wet Dream" by Kip Addotta.
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Dec 2020 | | Classical ItemAmerican Recording Society Orchestra, Dean Dixon - Walter Piston: Symphony #2 | This recording actually features the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and was recorded at the Vienna Konzerthaus in 1951. The pseudonym for the orchestra was likely used because of contractual reasons.
Dean Dixon was a black conductor in America and struggled with prejudice in the 1940s, which is probably the main reason that he (and his wife, pianist Vivian Rivkin) relocated to Europe in 1949. There is a good article about him at The Art Music Lounge.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumHans Conried, Dixieland All Stars Featuring Pee Wee Erwin - Peter Meets The Wolf In Dixieland | I had to clean up the top of the back cover - the previous owner wrote their name, address and phone number (at least there was no Social Security number) with a black marker. There are a few vestiges remaining...
This seems to be the first Strand LP.
LaurenceD SUBS 24th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumJimmy Smith - Live In Concert | I suspect that this was released in mid-1966, but cannot say with certainty.
BTW that "enhanced" sticker on the cover looks like it was added as an afterthought.

LaurenceD SUBS 18th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl Album[no artist listed] - Ruby | This is the first set of episodes (with promos) of the radio program Ruby the Galactic Gumshoe from 1982. I had never heard of this series before, and I found it quite interesting. My copy was in a plain white cover; I don't know if any additional material was provided to broadcasters.
On this disc, each promo runs around 20-25 seconds in length, and each episode tends to run around 3 minutes or less.

LaurenceD SUBS 16th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - February 9, 1971 | Of the KGIL news reporters listed, Howard Culver is probably the most recognizable, as he had a lengthy acting career, mostly in television.
As far as the cat#, "1260" was the frequency of KGIL AM in those days
