LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Dec 2020		CD Album The Byrds - Never Again	Those composer credits should be taken with a grain of salt... Tracks 12 & 16 are rather questionable - both sound like a female vocalist backed by a band that sounds kind of like The Byrds, but I doubt that it's really them. The main problem is the 12-string, which does not sound like a Rickenbacker, has no compression, and is being strummed rather than picked. I think that these two tracks were also included on that Byrds On The Wyng bootleg LP.
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Dec 2020		Classical Item BBC Symphony Orchestra, Lionel Friend - Havergal Brian: Symphony No.3	The tracks listed as [untitled] refer not to movements, but to index markers in the liner notes, e.g. "... from the long opening bass clarinet theme [18] through episodes magically remote ...". The only CD I have so far that separates tracks in this fashion.

LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Dec 2020		Classical Item American Recording Society Orchestra, Dean Dixon - Walter Piston: Symphony #2	This recording actually features the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and was recorded at the Vienna Konzerthaus in 1951. The pseudonym for the orchestra was likely used because of contractual reasons. Dean Dixon was a black conductor in America and struggled with prejudice in the 1940s, which is probably the main reason that he (and his wife, pianist Vivian Rivkin) relocated to Europe in 1949. There is a good article about him at The Art Music Lounge.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Nov 2020		Vinyl Album Hans Conried, Dixieland All Stars Featuring Pee Wee Erwin - Peter Meets The Wolf In Dixieland	I had to clean up the top of the back cover - the previous owner wrote their name, address and phone number (at least there was no Social Security number) with a black marker. There are a few vestiges remaining... This seems to be the first Strand LP.

LaurenceD SUBS 18th Nov 2020		Vinyl Album [no artist listed] - Ruby	This is the first set of episodes (with promos) of the radio program Ruby the Galactic Gumshoe from 1982. I had never heard of this series before, and I found it quite interesting. My copy was in a plain white cover; I don't know if any additional material was provided to broadcasters. On this disc, each promo runs around 20-25 seconds in length, and each episode tends to run around 3 minutes or less.
