LaurenceD SUBS ● 5th Jun 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPope Paul VI - First Visit To The Americas | Full title on cover: United Press International Presents Pope Paul VI First Visit To The Americas
Full title on labels (my copy): Los Angeles Herald-Examiner Presents "The Day With Pope Paul VI In The United States"
I have seen at least two other label variants:
- similar green labels with "Springfied News Presents ..."
- standard Blue Amy labels with "United Press International Presents ..."
There were three competing releases that I'm aware of, apparently released on the same day:
- Columbia XX2: "His Holiness Pope Paul VI Mission To America, October 4, 1965"
- MGM E-433-D: "An Historic Occasion Pope Paul VI Visits New York City October 4, 1965"
- Audio Fidelity AFLP 2152: Pope Paul In America"

LaurenceD SUBS ● 11th May 2016 | | 78 RPMTimmie Rogers And Excelsior Hep Cats - Bring Enough Clothes For Three Days / At Least You Could Save Me A Dream | I don't suppose that the Three Shades Of Rhythm are related to the Four Shades Of Rhythm...

LaurenceD SUBS ● 8th May 2016 | | 12" SingleJah Wobble - V.I.E.P. | Note that track B3 is listed as Blood Repression on the sleeve.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMThe Johnny Creach Trio - Danny Boy / It's You In My Heart | The first Dootone release, and "Papa John" Creach's first recording under his own name, if I'm not mistaken.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMSpike Jones And His City Slickers - William Tell Overture / By The Beautiful Sea | From what I can gather, some folks were convinced that By The Beautiful Sea contained some off-color lyrics, and as a result this b-side was quickly replaced with The Man On The Flying Trapeze. As I listen to it, I must admit to being mystified as to what they thought they heard.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 2nd Apr 2016 | | 78 RPMDick Winslow - Let's Play Jack And Jill / The Old Water Wheel | The husband and wife team of Dick Winslow on piano and Alice Tyrell (usually spelled Tyrrell) on vocals was a popular nightclub act, and active from 1947-1953 if not longer.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 7th Mar 2016 | | 8-TrackCarl Perkins - On Top | The case of my tape is actually a tomato-red/persimmon color, but my Canon scanner has difficulties with certain hues such as that.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 28th Feb 2016 | | 78 RPMBuddy Greco And His Three Sharps - Ooh! Look-a There, Ain't She Pretty / Don't You Think I Ought To Know | (From a Sunday Express interview) Buddy said this about his initial release:
“When I finally made my first record Oh Look-A-There Ain’t She Pretty at the age of 17, it sold over a million copies. I thought I would buy my parents a house with the royalty cheque but when it arrived it was only $33. The company president had taken the money and run.”

LaurenceD SUBS ● 23rd Feb 2016 | | CD AlbumShonen Knife - Pretty Little Baka Guy + Live In Japan | The liner notes from the original LP included in the insert reveal some differences in song titles versus the listings on the inlay and disc:
- track 1: insert = "Making Plans For Bison"; inlay, disc = "Bear Up Bison"
- track 3: insert = "Chocobars"; inlay, disc = "Choco Bars"
- track 8: insert = "Ah, Singapore"; inlay, disc = "Ah Singapore"

|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 18th Jan 2016 | | Cassette AlbumTom Waits - The Heart Of Saturday Night | This cassette seems to have been issued quite some time after the release of the LP. Billboard does not list a tape release for this album in 1974.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 18th Jan 2016 | | Cassette AlbumJimmy Reed - Jimmy Reed At Carnegie Hall | The track listings shown on the insert and the cassette itself contain an error; tracks 6 (Aw Shucks, Hush Your Mouth) & 18 (Big Boss Man) have been transposed. I have entered the tracks in their actual playing order, which is the same as on the LPs.

LaurenceD SUBS ● 22nd Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumDinah Washington - Music For Late Hours | A collection of tracks from previously released singles (the liner notes do not mention this). The earliest track, "I Can't Get Started With You" is from 1946 (Mercury 2052); the latest "Until Sunrise" from 1954 (Mercury 70336). The rest are from 1950-51.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 8th Dec 2015 | | 78 RPMLillian Long - The Peddle Song / Little Lass Round-Up | The (parent) Superb label was active from mid-1949 through 1950, so that suggests when this record may have been released. There is a Gayety label mentioned in Billboard, March 3 1951, but I'm not sure if it's this one.
|
LaurenceD SUBS ● 6th Dec 2015 | | Cassette Album[no artist listed] - Christmas Accordians | Somehow in the mastering process, a quite pronounced and disconcerting 'wow' was introduced, which persists throughout the entire tape. This is just the thing to play when some holiday visitors have overstayed their welcome...
