LaurenceD SUBS 1st Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMFreddy Martin - (There's A) Bluebird On Your Windowsill / I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts | (Sorry about the A-side image - I may go back and perform some cosmetic surgery on it, unless a better copy turns up).
Merv has often mentioned that he really hated I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts, so naturally it turned out to be his most popular recording...

LaurenceD SUBS 1st Mar 2014 | | 78 RPMSpike Jones And His City Slickers - Der Fuehrer's Face / I Wanna Go Back To West Virginia | Added an alternate A-side, the difference being that the Disney film is referred to as "Nuttsey Land" (the original working title) rather than "Der Fuehrer's Face". Apparently Spike Jones got permission to release his version of the song prior to the film's release. By the time the film did appear (Jan 1, 1943), it seems that Disney decided to change the film's title to match that of the hit record.

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Feb 2014 | | 78 RPMRev. G. W. Killens And The Mt. Calvary Congregation - Father I Stretch My Arm To Thee / Same Man | Billboard Sep 1, 1951, p.24 article "Modern Returns To Spiritual Pressings" mentions Sep. 10 releases planned for RPM nos. 334 & 335 and Modern no. 838, all with yellow labels to differentiate them from regular releases.

LaurenceD SUBS 25th Jan 2014 | | 78 RPMRoy Milton - I'll Always Be In Love With You / Sunny Side Of The Street | Label art by "Will Alex" AKA Bill Alexander.
I wish I had more of these labels!
LaurenceD SUBS 25th Jan 2014 | | 78 RPMLeo Watson - Jingle Bells / Snake Pit | The pianist “Jellyroll Lipschitz” is actually Leonard Feather, who arranged this recording session. You can read some of Feather's recollections of Leo Watson here

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Jan 2014 | | 78 RPMLittle Caesar - Long Time Baby / Going Down To The River | Moved this from Hollywood to Recorded In Hollywood.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jan 2014 | | 78 RPMLiberace - September Song / I Want My Mama (Mama Yo Quiero) | Mama Yo Quiero is perhaps better known by its original Portuguese title Mamãe Eu Quero.
Al Stillman, who wrote the English lyrics, gets a label credit even though the B-side is an instrumental recording.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jan 2014 | | 78 RPMInk Spots And Ella Fitzgerald - I'm Making Believe / Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall | Hi xiphophilos,
Your entry was a duplicate, so I merged your images, notes and comments with this one. Your images are nicer, so mine are now hidden.

LaurenceD SUBS 22nd Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMAda Jones And Len Spencer - House Cleaning Time | Zonophone pressing ca. 1909-1911
Originally released on a cylinder, Edison 9955, ca. 1908
Also see Victor 5521
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMJascha Heifetz - Estrellita / Valse Bluette (Air De Ballet) | First released on Victrola in 1928, then on Victor, and RCA Victor.
LaurenceD SUBS 19th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMKing Edward VIII - Farewell Address Of The Former King Edward VIII To The British Empire Part 1 / Farewell Address Of The Former King Edward VIII To The British Empire Part 2 | I see that the farewell address was issued on Brunswick in the UK and U.S., and also by quite a few independent labels (presumably the recording was in the public domain).
I'm not sure if I've chosen the appropriate artist name, but The Former King Edward VIII sounded awkward. ;-)
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Four Knights - I Get So Lonely (When I Dream About You) / I Couldn't Stay Away From You | There are two errors on my copy: "Larry Taylor Mus. Co" is spelled Larry Tarylor, and then look at what happened on the B-side...
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMLes Paul And Mary Ford - In The Good Old Summertime / Smoke Rings | In The Good Old Summertime first appeared on the "New Sound Vol. 2" LP, released Aug 13, 1951.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMLes Paul And Mary Ford - Just One More Chance / Jazz Me Blues | Both songs first appeared on the "New Sound Vol. 2" LP, released Aug 13, 1951.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMFranklyn Ferris - Beloved / Jeannine (I Dream Of Lilac Time) | Franklyn Ferris (and Carol Wynn) were pseudonyms for Emil Velazco.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Harmonians - I Just Roll Along (Havin' My Ups And Downs) / Chloe (Song Of The Swamp) | Vocals (uncredited) by Irving Kaufman on both sides, I believe.
LaurenceD SUBS 27th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMInk Spots And Ella Fitzgerald - I'm Making Believe / Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall | The designated B-side Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall became the hit.
LaurenceD SUBS 13th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMRay Block - Donkey Tango / Vicki | I linked Ray Block to Ray Bloch on here and at 45cat. Unless I'm mistaken, they're one and the same.
LaurenceD SUBS 13th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Don Juan Quartet - Monsanto March / ONB Samba (Music About A Chemical) | As I understand it, copies of this record were sent to Monsanto customers (in a custom sleeve), possibly to promote ortho-Nitrobiphenyl (ONB). I found mentions of this record in trade journals from 1953, so 1952-53 would seem likely for release. It certainly resembles Columbia pressings from that time period.
In addition to the matrix numbers on the labels, the runout on each side also has "1KA" and a small "H" (Hollywood pressing?).
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMPaul Whiteman - Trav'lin' Light / You Were Never Lovelier | Billie Holiday was under contract to Columbia at the time, so at their request she was credited as Lady Day on the label.
LaurenceD SUBS 4th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMUncle Burt [Burt Hilber] - The Ever-So-Many Amazing Adventures Of Johnny | I have only the first disc from this album, and I think it's interesting how they managed to bifurcate the four different story strands at the beginning of each side, and then have the four strands rejoin each other by the end of that side. If I ever manage to come across an intact album, I'll definitely grab it.
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMDale Evans - Dusty Skies / Will You Be My Darlin'? | This is a re-issue of sides from 2 Bel-Tone releases from 1945.
Based on the information at this well-researched site about this Gold Seal label, I would say that this record was issued in late 1947 or early 1948.
LaurenceD SUBS 3rd Oct 2013 | | 78 RPMCathy And Bob Crosby - Cathy / The Bucket Song | Cathy Crosby (Bob's daughter) would have been 12 when this was released.
LaurenceD SUBS 29th Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMMajestic Dance Orchestra - By My Side / Out Of Nowhere | "Buddy Blue" is a pseudonym for Smith Ballew.
I suspect that the Majestic Dance Orchestra may really be Bob Haring's Orchestra (on this release), not 100% convinced though.
LaurenceD SUBS 14th Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMPaul Whiteman - C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E / Get Out And Get Under The Moon | Bing Crosby sings lead on "Get Out And Get Under The Moon", though he is not credited on the label. There is some debate as to whether he participated on "C-O-N-S-T-A-N-T-I-N-O-P-L-E".
LaurenceD SUBS 14th Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Little Ramblers - Cross Words Between Sweetie And Me / Don't Bring Lulu | The Little Ramblers were a small band offshoot of the California Ramblers. Featured on these sides (among others) are Adrian Rollini, Red Nichols, Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMVarious Artists - Bride And Groom | The featured couple was Reed Polhemus and Opal Williams.
Regular host John Nelson was on vacation, so Jack McElroy filled in.
McElroy also sang the couple's requested song, "I Love You" by Cole Porter.
I cannot determine the program date by listening, but it must be around 1946.
I did not scan all of the labels, I think you get the idea from the first two.
LaurenceD SUBS 7th Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMGlen Hurlburt - Cable Car Concerto / Rhapsody Of Fisherman's Wharf | In early 1947 San Francisco Mayor Roger Lapham proposed that the Powell Street cable cars should be replaced with modern, more efficient buses. This record was released during the uproar that followed.
The single must have remained in print for some time, as a 45 rpm pressing exists as well.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMCarroll And Gorman - Canasta / The Little Hotel Down The Street | Frank Carroll and Johnny Gorman were a vaudeville duo who date back to the early 1920s.
This is one of three sequential King releases { 25083, 25084, 25085 } by Carroll and Gorman, which were likely released as an album. Billboard (Feb 24, 1951) mentions a C&G album on King, cat number unknown.

LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Sep 2013 | | 78 RPMPearl Five - Golfin Papa / Mr Wong No Two | Should we date this 1947?
