RogerFoster 14th Oct 2024 | | CD AlbumLuther - Luther | I think you might want to edit that link Mr YankeeDisc. :)
I don't remember hearing "It's Good For The Soul" back in '76, or if I did hear it the song never sank in. It didn't do too well on the "Blues & Soul" chart either, peaking at a measly #59. It can be seen at #79 in the chart for "B&S 202" "B&S 202" dated 20th July 1976.
Presumably Atlantic/Cotillion didn't release the "Luther" LP in The UK back in '76?

RogerFoster 14th Oct 2024 | | CD AlbumB.T. Express - Do It ('Til You're Satisfied) + 2 | ReviewAs I write this in October 2024 it is exactly fifty years since B.T Express's debut single "Do It ('Til Your Satisfied)" both topped Billboard's US R&B listings and received its UK release on Pye International 7N 25666. The single didn't quite manage to top Billboard's "Pop" listings but it did hold the #2 spot for two weeks!! I could have sworn it was a UK chart-hit as well as I remember hearing it being played a lot on the radio but somehow it missed out.
This CD contains all the tracks from the LP that was rushed out to capitalise on the success of the single plus the 7" edits of "Do It ('Til Your Satisfied)" and its follow up "Express" (a tune that also topped Billboard's US R&B Chart as well as getting to #4 on the magazine's "Pop" Hot-100 chart). "Express" DID manage to chart in The UK at a respectable(ish) #34, but probably outsold many a Pop-Top-20 hit as a lot of its sales would have been through specialist Soul/Disco/Funk shops that didn't report to the folks who compiled the charts.,. the L.P. versions of these two tunes on this CD sound to me to be the same as the "Long" versions that were on the "B" sides of their respective singles.
B.T. Express were one of a number of popular New York City based self-contained Disco/Funk/Soul/R&B bands that emerged around 1974 (the clue is in the name as "B.T. Express" stands for "Brooklyn Transit Express") and I was spurred into buying this CD after hearing some of the lesser known tracks being played on a splendid "early '70s" Soul/Funk radio show called "The Soul Power Lunch Hour" that goes out every weekday at Midday EST on WQSV in Staunton, Virginia (that's usually at 5PM where I live in England where I can pick it up via "The Net") ... try it, you'll like it!!
Fifty years on all the tracks stand up very well and still sound VERY fresh and not rushed at all ... apart from the relentless, insidious funk of their two major hits, standouts for me are "Mental Telepathy", a very "Norman Whitfieldesque" track that has echoes of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", and "That's What I Want For You Baby", which has more of a mainstream "Soul" sound than the other tracks. "Once You Get It" is really a "Do It (Until You're Satisfied)" soundalike and "Everything Good To You" is one of those "advice" songs that might have been a big hit if recorded by someone like The Staple Singers.
Here are some of the standouts ...

RogerFoster 13th Jun 2024 | | CD AlbumDiana Ross - Diana Ross | I've just purchased a new copy of this (in May 2024) and have added an image of the CD disc (#3593391).
As far as I' can see the booklet is the same as that posted by Alenko, with the only difference to the packaging being that my back cover has none of the blurb underneath the barcode about it being manufactured for BMG by a company in Indianapolis. Instead it just has the barcode 044001681820, as is standard.
One funny thing about my purplish/red CD is that it has an error in the ordering of the tracks with "Reach Out & Touch" appearing as the final track and if I play the CD it starts with "Now That There's You" ... everything else is in the correct order. It confused the %$@& out of me when I played the CD for the first time.
There's a very nice "Live" version of "Something On My Mind" on here, recorded immediately after Miss Ross left The Supremes.

RogerFoster 19th Nov 2023 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Best Of Hayley Records | No indication of a release date for this though, judging from the list of "Vinyl 7" singles available" and the Hayley discography at 45Cat it has to be some time from 2006 onwards.
The music itself is a selection of obscure, Detroit-related, recordings that the label managed to obtain ... it sounds like mainly '70s material to me but there are a couple of '60s sounds in there, most notably the "Thunderbird Sound" track, which in reality is a Motown backing track from 1967.

RogerFoster 10th Aug 2023 | | MagazineBlues & Soul | I'm not sure how this fits in here as a UK issue of "Blues & Soul" from June 1980 ...
Unfortunately the resolution of the front cover image is only 560X420 so it is difficult to make out the detail ..... BUT ..... as far as I can make out ....
It has no "Issue Number" ... The UK "Blues & Soul" issues for June 1980 were #305 (3rd Jun 1980) and #306 (17th Jun 1980), with #307 being 1st July 1980.
As far as I can see the date is "June 1980" with no specific day mentioned.
It has a "Bar Code" ... they were in existence in 1980 but it wasn't until some years later that they became universally used in The UK.
The price isn't right ... "Blues & Soul" was sold for 50p in mid-1980 ... the price on this issue looks like it could be £1:25 ... or could that be a Dollar sign and $1:25??? Even as late as 1990 "Blues & Soul" sold for only £1.
The cover photo of Michael Jackson does look to be from his "Off The Wall" period and the other artists featured (Chaka Khan, Fatback, Brothers Johnson) were around at that same time so it does relate somehow to Mid-1980 or thereabouts.
So .... my theory is that this was some mock-up or special "retro" edition from some years later and possibly originated in The USA. .... do any other budding Sherlock Holmes out there have any further theories?
The magazine was contributed by "Doberman" of Minehead, Somerset, England, who doesn't seem to have been active for two years ... I wonder if he is still around to help us out?
