sladesounds ● 16th Mar 2023		Cinema Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)	Rated 4/10 Luther, a great BBC TV series that is 100% worth watching if you haven't done so already. Luther the movie is a poor cash attempt on the brand and Idris Elba. Where the TV series had a credible storyline that was interesting this movie is a far fetched fantasy that tries to play every cliché going. It got to the stage where I could predict the next stupid turn..... spoiler alert the car crashes through the ice in a remote mountain lake and low and behold a helicopter arrives right on time and fully suited frogmen are able to jump in and rescue him from drowning......hmmm thankfully someone had the foresight to send a police helicopter with frogmen ready to go up a mountain in the middle of winter just in case there was a frozen lake.... Action packed ... ok yes Great lead actor ... ok yes Good credible storyline ... not really Will I watch again ... NO 2 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

sladesounds ● 9th Feb 2023		Vinyl Album Bob James - Rameau	Review Not the normal jazz album you may expect from the jazz keyboard player Bob James. This one is an electronic rendition of the music of the French Baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. I gather that this was originally recorded to give as Christmas gifts to his friends but obviously it made it to a general release. IMHO this is a good listen if you enjoy Tomita, Wendy Carlos or the like. 1 person found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

sladesounds ● 7th Dec 2021		Vinyl Album Cat Stevens - Teaser And The Firecat	From songfacts: Stevens got the lyrics from a hymn book he found at a bookstore while looking for (public domain) song ideas. It was a children's hymn by Eleanor Farjeon, who also wrote a lot of children's poetry. Stevens explained on The Chris Isaak Hour: "I accidentally fell upon the song when I was going through a slightly dry period and I needed another song or two for Teaser And The Firecat. I came across this hymn book, found this one song, and thought, This is good. I put the chords to it and then it started becoming associated with me." Children in England, where Stevens grew up and attended church, could have heard Farjeon's hymn in primary school. Scottish children sang the old Gaelic hymn, "Child in a manger, Infant of Mary" to this tune. This hymn, which is based on a melody called "Bunessan" (named for a small island town in Scotland), predated "Morning" and was written in Gaelic by Mary MacDonald before being translated into English. For Scottish children it was a Christmas hymn. Rick Wakeman, who was a session musician at the time, played the piano on this track, marking the first time he appeared on a hit single.
