Thanks WB - I was going on some information I found that stated that these labels were only used on the west coast where the Californian's were doing there own thing until the label design was brought back into line.

The image for the cover was adapted from a Hungarian stamp issued in 1953 <Image ID: 784758>. It was one of a sport-themed set commemorating the opening the Népstadion (People's Stadium) in Budapest.

Soldier Soldier (1991 - 1997)
This was compulsory viewing for squadies at the time purely so you could try and rip apart what they were doing wrong like being unable to march correctly, using the wrong uniform, equipment or drills and the like - a bit I guess like London's Burning was for firemen or The Bill for the Met police.

The thing they seemed to get right I recall was the wives and what they were like! I can recall many antics of soldiers better halfs, many who wore their husbands ranks with relish.

Robson Green's role as Tucker was also pretty accurate in that every regiment seemed to have a hapless but likable fool who always was in the s**t and normally came out smelling (faintly) of roses. His wife Donna was true too - every regiment I served with had at least one like her - Ron Hills & stilettos as a fashion highpoint, normally with a motor mouth and one who was never happy with her husbands lot.

Dastardly And Muttley In Their Flying Machines (1969 - 1970)
I like the Wikipedia entry for this show which summarises the series as such:

"Each story features variations on the same plot elements: the Vulture Squadron tries to trap Yankee Doodle Pigeon using one or more planes equipped with Klunk's latest contraptions, but one or more of the Squadron messes up and the plane(s) either crash, collide or explode (or even all of the above!)."

I can recall watching many of the first few seasons of this law drama mostly for the presence of Susan Dey, her from The Partridge Family. I would imagine that it most probably hasn't aged too well like many drama shows from that time.

Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969 - 1974)
biffbampow - yes large elements of it are dated but as other have said it is personal taste. I wasn't old enough to see most of it first time round - I discovered the Pythons around the time of Brian - but I can appreciate it today for what it is, a 1960/70s classic sketch show that helped push to boundaries of what could and could not be aired.

The Cramps - Smell Of Female
Review
One gets the feeling from the title and cover art alone that if the Cramps could have released this live document in Glorious Smell-o-rama they would have jumped at the chance. Even without it one can almost sense the whiffs of perspiration and energy the group was cooking up; recorded at New York's Peppermint Lounge with Powers on guitar, the quartet slams out a then mostly entirely new set of songs with, as expected, appropriate covers as needed.

The wonderfully profane take on Hasil Adkins' "She Said" surfaces here, with Interior sounding like he's about to die more than once. The Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" and the perfectly appropriate "Faster Pussycat," taken from the legendary Russ Meyer film of the same name, also give the band more than a little something to chew on.

As for the originals, the usual mess of swampy rockabilly and industrial strength noise comes together in just the right way from the start. "Thee Most Exalted Potentate of Love" gives Interior the chance to do his undead but still wired loveman thang right from the start, while Ivy and Powers hit the twang hard and Knox keeps everything going just right. "Call of the Wighat" is another highpoint, with Knox showing that he's up to more involved pounding and percussion when the need arises.

A studio cut, "Surfin' Dead," surfaces as a ringer at the end; if not quite the Cramps go Beach Boys, it arguably forecasts the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Kill Surf City" just enough.

Have added composer credits, disc cat #'s, sorted out the section breaks & the misspellings etc. Have also added an alternate back cover from my copy and have changed the label from Polydor [UK] to MCA [Europe]. Can't see where Polydor came from.

Strange CD, no cat# or date of issue.
A mixture of jazz, blues, marches & others all recorded between 1929-1944.
The same CD was released on other labels with same name and same tracks such as this one in 2000.
