sladesounds 11th May 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThorinshield - Thorinshield | An obscure Los Angeles trio that had its roots in folk movement but at times drifted into a little psych rock.
Tracks such as Wrong My Friend, Here Today and Life Is A Dream offer a highly commercial mix of folk-rock and soft psych. The combination of great harmonies (check out Pleasure Time), coupled with occasional psychedelic touches (nice backwards guitar on One Girl) and attractive orchestration (Prelude To A Postlude) come across as quite impressive.
Bobby Ray may be the same guy who played bass on Donovan's May 1966 sessions in L.A., including Season Of The Witch, The Trip and two unreleased pieces: Super Lungs (different version) and Breezes of Patchulie.
Drummer Terry Hand had previous played in a number of surf bands and released a couple of singles as a member of Everpresent Fullness.

sladesounds 3rd May 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumDavid Bowie - Lodger | Lodger is Bowie's 13th studio album. The last of the 'Berlin Trilogy' recorded in collaboration with Brian Eno. Produced in Switzerland and New York City it was seen as being more accessible than its predecessors Low and "Heroes" due to the lack of instrumentals and also being somewhat more pop-oriented. It was still an experimental record in many ways and was not, by Bowie's standards, a major commercial success.
