spreadjoy 7th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain And His Jazz Group - Bateau Lounge | On this album Pete does one of my all time faves. Little Rock Getaway, written by Joe Sullivan, I have always loved the 1950 Capitol F1316 recording by Les Paul, a B side. Joe Sullivan did not record it until much later. Pete's version does not resemble Les Paul.

spreadjoy 5th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Mood Indigo | With this album we hear Pete play a very obsecure track, it is widely recorded but to the general masses it is little known. "Bluesette" by Jean Thielemans, Toots recorded it in 1964.

spreadjoy 5th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Plenty Of Pete | Yep, a true Jazz, album 8 tracks
|
spreadjoy 4th Feb 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm - Pete Fountain Presents Jack Sperling And His Fascinatin' Rhythm | While this album might not be a strictly Pete Fountain album, it does introduce a long time Drummer with Pete, Jack Sperling. Pete certainly does make a great contribution to most tracks. I consider it a Pete Fountain on lead with Clarinet and others on most Jazz records with Jack Sperling showcased on Drums.

spreadjoy 2nd Feb 2016 | | CD AlbumPete Fountain - Live In Santa Monica | Recorded live at the Santa Monicas Civic Auditorium on March 16, 1961.
The musicians played with Pete Fountain for years. Each has a chance to showcase his talent on this CD. I've heard most of Pete's work, this is a killer, it is true Dixieland.

spreadjoy 14th Jan 2016 | | CD AlbumPete Fountain - Country | Just arrived, what a spectacular CD. "Country" using the ultra Melancholy instrument "The Clarinet". Also featured on this CD are outstanding session personel. with vocal backups in the same style as the Jordonaires, Anita Kerr Singers, knowing Owen Bradley who knows, he and Pete have always surrounded themselves with great musicians. It is a true country CD, with all the tid bits, as usual Pete is a killer. The last track "Sunday In The Country" is a very special track, it features Pete Fountain on vocals & a wee bit of Clarinet. He sings with strains of Jerry Lewis (not 'the killer' Lewis) at times. Seek it out have a listen.

spreadjoy 11th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete Fountain's Golden Favorites | A great introduction album for any prospective Pete Fountain fan.
Tracks from everywhere.
Two absolute classic Clarinet tracks:
Petite Fleur by Sidney Bechet, a native of New Orleans of African American stock. Spent time in Paris playing in jazz clubs. A great bio is available on this fascinating exponent of both Sax & Clarinet.
Stranger On The Shore by Acker Bilk and Publisher Robert Mellin.
I make not apologies, I love Petes' version over Ackers', Acker played a Selmer whist Pete played a La Blanc. Pete always tended to have a much smoother sound.
The album has cuts from earlier albums, "A Taste Of Honey", "Plays Bert Kaempfert", "Those Were The Days" etc etc etc Licorice Stick a US charted single in 1964, Pete had 14 US Charted Albums.

spreadjoy 11th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Pete's Place | ReviewNormally speaking I do not like "Live" albums, but this production does not have crowd noise during tracks. Some have intro & or intro/outro applause. With some exceptions.

spreadjoy 8th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPete Fountain - Salutes The Great Clarinetists | ReviewThe only regret I have about this record is that it is not a double. Any lover of swing will lose their mind listening to this superb recording of Pete's. In the finest Decca/Coral Stereo recordings of the early 1960's, this is spectacular. Pete's outstanding technique especially his tonguing is something to die for.
