Strange Changes 30th Nov 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumMott The Hoople - The Hoople | Morgan Fisher recalled the recording of the album and said "the single version has one of the ladies from Thunderthighs doing the chat bit. But on the album, it’s the divine Lynsey de Paul. I was there when she did it. On the “Oh” of “Oh will do”, Lynsey said it with a sexy, feline rattle in her throat, a bit like Eartha Kitt used to do."

Strange Changes 28th Nov 2018 | | CD AlbumMarlene - Looking For Love | Marlene has an interesting voice and the album is quite varied due to the use of different songwriters. The song has also been recorded by boy band Menudo, as well as by TV band Kidd Video and Hong Kong singer Sam Hui.

Strange Changes 28th Nov 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumDana - The Girl Is Back | ReviewDana seemed to find new ground and new impetus to her career, thanks to working closely with Barry Blue on this album. The first track "The Girl Is Back (In Town)" sounds deeply personal and is a rousing, mini-opus with swirling strings and bagpipes. The lead single "Something's Cooking In The Kitchen" is uptempo, slightly sexy and funny with clever lyrics and make #44 on the UK singles chart. Dana performs a wonderful version of the old classic "I Can't Get Over Getting Over You". Side one finished with an unusual and amusing update on "Cry Like A Baby". "Break The Ice" is the first track on side 2 and is quite catchy but the B-sides best two tracks come at the end with "How Can I Prove My Love", an insistent chugger of a song that would not be out of place on a Heatwave album. The album closes with the beautiful and classy "The Thieves Of Paris" which shows why the songs writers Lynsey de Paul and Barry Blue should have carried on their successful songwriting partnership. All in all a great album.

Strange Changes 28th Nov 2018 | | CD AlbumBruce Johnston - Going Public | Of course this album stands out for featuring "I Write The Songs" which was written by him (and not Barry Manilow, who had a hit with his version of the song). More unusual is Bruce's take on the Lynsey de Paul Ivor Novello Award winning "Won't Somebody Dance With Me" which is presented from the view of his daughter and features female vocals.

Strange Changes 27th Nov 2018 | | CD AlbumSmoove And Turrell - Antique Soul | According to Smoove & Turrell's website, "You Don’t Know" is a beautiful song with a driving beat. Like the best soul records the music is uplifting while the subject matter is melancholy. In a word – it’s a classic. It samples "Water", a track from Lynsey De Paul's debut album "Surprise" released in 1973. Normally such a sample would be a big issue for a band without a big label or a heavyweight lawyer but not so in this case. When Lynsey heard the record she loved how they had used her music and intervened directly with her record company and publishers to make sure the deal happened.
