thatsunday 7th Oct 2015 | | BookRichard Balls - Be Stiff | Black version images added.
A good book, but a little bit short on the later years and some acts (didn't even mention The Feelies). And more insight on the associated labels and worldwide distribution deals would have been nice. You can't have everything I guess.
@ Nick: for me it is also a book about Economics ;-)

thatsunday 13th Jul 2014 | | CD AlbumImelda May - Love Tattoo | I would say that Universal took over existing stock after licensing and used this sticker to have their own logos and barcode on the CD.
Later pressings integrated the logos and barcode into the artwork.
A pressing without sticker should be entered under Ambassador, the Universal pressing under Blue Thumb as releasing label.
The one with sticker? Probably as a variation when the Blue Thumb pressing is entered one day (don't expect me have it done in the next 10 years, it's the letter M and I'm still at A)

thatsunday 31st Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumJean Knight - Mr. Big Stuff | I don't know why listing it for each country is such a big deal
because it would clutter up the discographies. And it might be difficult to identify "real" different pressings if there are no images with the entries.
then re-pressings with the same label and catalogue number in each country
which mostly had changes to the artwork to include local legal and copyright information etc and often a different catalogue number as well. So this would make them a unique release assigned to a single county (or market ie Europe) as they were only sold there.
BTW: If I remember correctly ZYX in Germany was the only licensee for the Fantasy catalogue outside of the USA (before Fantasy did a deal with Universal) and pressed the CDs. All other companies mentioned in the artwork are hence not licensees but distributors only.

thatsunday 27th Mar 2014 | | CD AlbumFehlfarben - Xenophonie | I would say separate when
a) a (slightly) different catalogue number (like a letter which denotes the promo status of the CD, ie a P after the standard cat no) is used
b) the packaging is totally different to the commercially released version (like here)
but not when the only difference is something like "promo copy" printed on the label or artwork.

thatsunday 13th Dec 2012 | | CD SingleVan Morrison - Have I Told You Lately | I have decided to do it this way:
scan A : front without flap
scan B : back with flap and spine
(if necessary an additional scan and upload : back without flap when the flap obscures information)
scan C : disc
I have already re-cropped and re-scanned my images accordingly.

thatsunday 13th Dec 2012 | | CD SingleAbsynthe Minded - Acquired Taste | I have entered the information about the enhanced video part in the notes, assuming that a video shouldn't be a part of the track listing.
|
thatsunday 13th Dec 2012 | | CD SingleThe Who - My Generation | I personally would have entered it as UK too (assuming it was done at PDO Blackburn).
- Blackburn did mostly local releases
- the sticker links it with an ad campaign which looks UK only (but any country could add a local sticker to finished product so this indication is weak..).
The BIEM / STEMRA logos indicate central right licensing. Polygram/Universal has SACEM as a partner nowadays. Saves them money.
Polydor (UK) is the repertoire owner, so it gets a credit regardless of country of release.
I would say: in doubt go for Europe
|
thatsunday 13th Dec 2012 | | CD SingleThe Who - My Generation | The pressing looks like an UK one, made by PDO in Blackburn. Unfortunately the inner ring text isn't readable, but from the style it should be an UK pressing. I have compared it with another CD from 1996 done at PDO Blackburn.
Polygram had three CD plants in Europe in the 90s (Langenhagen near Hannover, Louviers in France and Blackburn) with central warehousing for Europe in Langenhagen (plus local warehouses all over Europe).
These three were mainly assigned to international releases (Langenhagen), local UK (Blackburn) and local France (Louviers). To make things complicated orders were often off loaded to one of the other Polygram plants, depending on demand and capacity planning.
Some orders were placed at third party suppliers. The most extreme example was Elton John's Candle in the Wind which was manufactured at more then 10 factories due to demand.
Local Polygram companies had to use the three plants mentioned, but inofficially they used local plants from time to time to save money and have shorter leadtimes.
As you know Polygram became Universal, with only one main plant (EDC in Langenhagen) left. A little bit less complicated, but the problem with assigning the right country remains..
I worked for more than 20 years at Polygram and Universal in Langenhagen but I'm lost sometimes too when it comes to country of release...

thatsunday 12th Dec 2012 | | CD SingleA Camp - I Can Buy You | My first CD added. Contrary to my 78 collection I will be able to add a few more here :-)
First impression: silver discs are difficult to scan.
BTW: Would be nice to be a mod here as well.

thatsunday 31st Mar 2014 | | 12" SingleT.G.M. - Viens Viens A Juan-Les-Pins | I agree: it should be french.
The label (not sure about the spelling, I think it was named Small) was Sony France's offshoot for alternative / independent music.
|
thatsunday 18th Dec 2013 | | 12" SingleA Certain Ratio - Do The Du (Casse) | My scanner doesn't like certain colors, so in reality my copy has the same colors on the sleeve front and back like on janiejjones scans. But the label colors are indeed different.
|
thatsunday 11th Jan 2013 | | 12" SingleThe Pogues - Sally MacLennane | the person who nicked your images did the same with dozens of mine from 45cat...
I once was thinking about managing my whole collection with the help of discogs, but was put off by always seeing images stolen from 45cat. Contributing to discogs is a nightmare too, including the sometimes horrible behaviour and commenting on contributions from some members.
Luckily we have 45worlds now, and hopefully LPworlds/CDworlds soon.

thatsunday 28th Dec 2012 | | 12" SingleThe A-Bones - Tempo Tantrum | My first contribution to 12" Single World (a 10" in fact), my first typo here...
Could I get mod powers, please?
BTW: 10" is missing from the options
|
thatsunday 7th Mar 2014 | | DCCCocteau Twins - Four-Calendar Café | My only DCC. Given to me in 1993 while visting the duplication plant in Amersfoort.
Never played as I don't own a DCC player (but who does?).
|
thatsunday 29th Dec 2012 | | Cassette SingleJohn Lennon - Woman / Beautiful Boys | I can't add the release year (1981). A bug or is it me?
The drop down options start at 1985. I think the first cassette singles were released in the late sixties, so maybe the year range should be extended?
|
thatsunday 28th Dec 2012 | | Cassette SingleBjörk - Venus As A Boy (7" Edit) / Venus As A Boy (Mick Hucknall's Edit) | oh dear, my first entry here, first typo too..
Could I have mod powers here too, please?
|
thatsunday 28th Dec 2012 | | Cassette SingleBjörk - Venus As A Boy (7" Edit) / Venus As A Boy (Mick Hucknall's Edit) | Seems that I have at least 9 cassingles...
Are promos like this okay to enter? The ones I have are genuine, picked up at Polygram in the 90s, but considering how easy they can be copied / faked (or made up) maybe these are a little bit beyond the scope of the site?
These were not even really manufactured, but copied in house.
|
thatsunday 28th Dec 2012 | | Cassette SingleAcolytes - The Future Is Here... | I own exactly 8 cassingles...
But more might be lying around somewhere in a box, still unlistened to.
