wordnwot 28th Jun 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumFairfield Parlour - From Home To Home | No doubt it, this Album is splendid in all the same ways their previous efforts as Kaleidoscope were, carefully crafted songs with great thought placed on the construction and content of the lyrics. Very enjoyable!

wordnwot 9th Jun 2016 | | CD AlbumJean Michel Jarre - Equinox | Polydor Red faced version (same Cat no.) first appeared 1983, I would think this appeared 1984 or 1985 when the red face was dropped.
You know if its an early release if the Cat No. appears behind the CD holder, top right corner.
And Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe 800 025-2 occupies Placeholder 25 in the list of CD first releases.

wordnwot 28th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - Sounds Of Silence | Guys, I note that the earlier cat # shows up as the french release in a plenty.

wordnwot 28th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumLeonard Cohen - Greatest Hits | Rear sleeve Side 1 Song sequence shows Bird on the Wire as the closing track side 1 when it plays Track 4.

wordnwot 26th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumCaravan - In The Land Of Grey And Pink | FOR SDL series only (there were 15 releases that used this Cat Series)
1st type: Brown small DERAM logo April 1971 - Late 1971
2nd type: Brown large DERAM logo March 1972 - May 1972
3rd type: Brown and Same as 2nd type but with added date above matrix right side of label (May 1972) only
4th type: Soft Red as in above label here. Date above matrix, June 1972 - October 1973
5th type: More intense red with crimson hue Date above matrix, Summer 1972 and again in 1977.
** There seems to be a 6th and 7th type with Small and Large DERAM logo's on RED with the date at the bottom like here. (dates unknown probably post Summer 1972 - 1973)
(data from Labelography Volume 2 by Jan Pettersson)

wordnwot 26th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumCaravan - In The Land Of Grey And Pink | But why were Caravan 45's in UK released on Decca not Deram?
I think the Golf Girl Single came out well ahead of ITLOGAP while they were still on the Decca roster, ahead of a concious decision to assign them to Deram.

wordnwot 23rd May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumYes - Yes | I've added the Kinney catalogue number K40034 because my copy has the Sleeve sticker on the back with this number hiding the old 588190 number beneath. But my vinyl has 588190 cat number making mine a mixture.

wordnwot 13th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumSantana - Santana | The sleeve, when framed makes really fabulous house art wall decoration.
|
wordnwot 7th May 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumNilsson - Aerial Ballet | With a massive nod to janiejones's sterling work in adding all the stuff on this entry I took the liberty of uploading the 1st press black labels for everyone to see.
|
wordnwot 25th Apr 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumNilsson - Aerial Ballet | Not really been a fan of Nilsson but on finding this gem in the charity shop rack and having a listen, you can see straight away why his writing talents were highly regarded and his singing and the production is of a high standard indicating some thought went into the album creation process.

wordnwot 16th Apr 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Who - My Generation | Matrix first pressings seem to be MG-10256-1B and MG-10257-1B
Question:
Do MG-10256-1A and MG-10257-1A exist out there, maybe somewhere??

wordnwot 6th Apr 2016 | | CD AlbumAlan Parsons - On Air | Bonus disk 2 playable using VLC or Quicktime.
It must be remembered that it hails from 1996 (when computers were Windows 95 16bit install-able from 24+ floppy disks) and is a mish-mash of images and .mov files in grainy quality video and stills primarily marketed at Macintosh users.
For Alan Parsons devotees and collectionists / completists this is probably a tiny 'Holy Grail' must own. It was hard to get at the time let alone 2016. (I picked my copy up in Spain in summer 1997 and saw AP play live at Campo de futbol de Villarobledo (Albecete) with the gig starting 11pm Saturday 16 August 1997.

It just so happened that after returning from working in Philippines July 1997 My family decided to book a short break in La Marina - Alacante. I was down with severe cold fever and lay around exhausted from endless coughing in the warm sun. Finally, by week end I searched www.theavenue.com for what was Alan Parsons latest release (as I knew Spaniards loved his music). WOW! he was playing live in Spain that week in Villarobledo south of Madrid. We drove from Alicante to Villarobledo (no sat-nav) and got there about 9.30pm. Great concert but very few people.. Kids loved it but had no clue who he was??!!!

|
wordnwot 25th Mar 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumNana Mouskouri - Turn On The Sun | Even though the STL 5xxx series had come to an end by May/June 1970, it appears that there remained a stack of black labels that were assigned to the new 7 number cat codes beginning with 6 although not sure how long these lasted before the blue labels became the norm on fontana.

wordnwot 25th Jan 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPretty Things - S.F. Sorrow | Reading the thread of comments especially Columbia singles, it cements in my mind that this LP and the singles releases were probably born out of a new enthusiasm found by the band from working with Norman Smith and caused them too get over indulgent in trying to mimic Sgt Peppers and lost sight of the fact that they were not really a successful band like the Beatles were.
This album although brilliant was a step too far in terms of complexity and attempting to get the attention of a larger audience. Perhaps a complete re-branding group name change might have kicked this album off more successfully and caught the public's interest.
