"Home Sweet Home" has number 03049

|
Graham7 4th May 2015 | | 78 RPMColumbia Light Opera Company - Patience (1929) | 18 Dec 1929 is the date these sides were recorded.
How quickly were shellacs produced? When would it have reached shops? Probably not 'til early 1930.
|
Graham7 2nd May 2015 | | 78 RPMSandy Powell - The Lost Policeman (1929) | I've just got a copy. It is 8"
A 9" reissue would surely not be possible back then, before magnetic tape was used to make and store recordings. Unless a direct dub was made of the 8" on to a 9", which I thnk unlikely, a release on a different size disc would have to be a fresh recording.

Graham7 29th Mar 2015 | | 78 RPMThe Goons - The Ying Tong Song / Bloodnok's Rock 'N' Roll Call (1956) | Scans added. They seem to be the same as described by camshaft in Sep 2013.
|
Graham7 27th Mar 2015 | | 78 RPMRoy Fox - Oh' Mo'Nah / If I Didn't Have You (1932) | soultwinz, your images for your duplicate addition have been moved here.
Roy Fox had (at least) two distinct credits, so I've added "& Band/Orchestra" as appropriate to his other records (that didn't have it listed) - they are still viewable together under Roy Fox.
|
Graham7 7th Mar 2015 | | 78 RPMRoy Leslie - Round The Marble Arch / We're All Jolly Good Pals (1932) | Sorry about the uncropped labels, but there's nothing left to see, just the matrix numbers in the crystalate.
Identified thanks to John Rogers' listings .
|
Graham7 7th Mar 2015 | | 78 RPMLeslie Sarony - Mucking About The Garden / John Brown's Body (1929) | Though uncredited, Mucking About The Garden was written by Leslie Sarony under the pseudonym Q. Kumber (or Q. Cumber) as seen on other versions.
Seems to have been a one time only use of this name (see CHARM).
Also recorded as a 10" on Imperial 2138.
|
Graham7 16th Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMNora Brockstedt - Det Som Skjer, Det Skjer (Que Sera, Sera) / Jolie Jaqueline (1957) | Artist credit simplified, also for other of Nora's records, so they should all show up together in the discography page.
|
Graham7 31st Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMThe London Crusader Choir - There Is A Green Hill / There Is A Fountian Filled With Blood | I'm guessing that this is an earlier version of this label, address 55 Gloucester Rd. The EVA numbered ones have 296 Vauxhall Bridge Road, both in London.
These 2 sides were also issued as EVA 105 - see here.
|
Graham7 29th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMFamily Prayer Crusade - Souvenir Record (1952) | Bingo! I think it might be related to the Rosary Crusade of 1952.
See The Tablet 5th July 1952 and 2nd August 1952.
And it is Patrick Peyton speaking on the record.

Graham7 29th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMFamily Prayer Crusade - Souvenir Record (1952) | I've now found the record - again, it was one I scanned ages ago, and wasn't sure how to add.
So I've just listened to it - it features one male voice, Irish (or Irish/American?) accent. Starts with a Hail Mary. Talks about one million people in England, families who've agreed to pray together and say their rosarys. So I'll change it to UK for now.
Thanks for the research Amy, it could still be related to the outfit in your link, possibly for an evangelising visit to England?
|
Graham7 29th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMVera Lynn - I'll Never Smile Again, Until I Smile At You / Until You Fall In Love (1940) | B side was entered as "I'll Never Smail Again, Until I Smaile At You" - this surely can't be right - I've changed title to what seems more likely!
Actually it is the A side - so I've changed that, and corrected B side title too.

Graham7 29th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMJack Hylton - Amy / Oh! What A Silly Place To Kiss A Girl (1930) | Amy, Wonderful Amy

Graham7 29th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMFamily Prayer Crusade - Souvenir Record (1952) | One sided mystery disc added. If I had to guess I'd say it's American, but I don't know.
The runout shows what looks like JKF 226, but the K seems to be backwards.
|
Graham7 28th Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMErnest Butcher - Come To The Fair / I Love Someone In Somerset (1920) | Misspelled B side composer, Thomas Case Sterndale Bennett was the son of William Sterndale Bennett and father of Joan Sterndale-Bennett.
According to CHARM, from whence I got the date, the piano is by Madame Adami.
I've also been trying to work out who Ernest Butcher is. Is he Ernest Butcher (1885–1965), or a pseudonym of Peter Dawson?

Graham7 23rd Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMЛ. А. Русланова (Lydia Ruslanova) - Час Да По Часу / Саратовские Частушки (1940) | Brilliant sleuthing, Amy. Thanks very much!
Nice that mp3s are available at the links you found.
Thanks too, TheJudge, for filling in the blanks.
Can we add 1940 as a date to complete the entry?
Merry Christmas to all, I'm away from here for about a week now.
(PS - this was the most viewed item on 45worlds yesterday!)

Graham7 22nd Dec 2014 | | 78 RPMЛ. А. Русланова (Lydia Ruslanova) - Час Да По Часу / Саратовские Частушки (1940) | No idea what this record is.
Added the numbers from the labels, and someone has written "Limerick Of Saratov" on one side, which may, or may not be relevant, and is googleproof.
Hope someone can read these labels and provide more info.

Graham7 14th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMWilliam McCulloch - Why The Town Went Dry (Part 1) / Why The Town Went Dry (Part 2) (1929) | Reviewed in "The Gramophone" November 1929.
See here for brief biography and discography of the Scottish monologuist.
|
Graham7 13th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMH.M. King George V - A Message To The Empire (1936) | Added clearer label scan (nod to Redpunk).
And scan of the etched B side.
|
Graham7 5th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMHarry Roy - Wah-De-Dah / Waiting For Tomorrow And You (1933) | Wah-De-Dah was reissued in 1935 on F 142 but credited "From The May Fair Hotel".
The matrix number shows that it is the same recording as this "Cafe Anglais" issue.
|
Graham7 5th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMSir Thomas Beecham Conducting The London Philharmonic Orchestra - Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'un Faune (Part 1) / Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'un Faune (Part 2) (1939) | Sorry about blurry A side. I have several discs slightly dished. At least the B side scan is clear, though it is tricky on a small scanner to get either side of large 78s close enough to the glass to get a good image.
(info in Notes found at DISMARC)
Will also add this to Classical World.

Graham7 4th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMTeddy Brown - Soldiers' Chorus / Under The Double Eagle (1928) | "Under The Double Eagle":

Graham7 4th Nov 2014 | | 78 RPMStoll Picture Theatre Organ Played By Herbert Griffiths - Les Millions D'Arlequin / Minuet In G (1928) | Yes it was located in Kingsway, London. Originally opened as The London Opera House (1911) became Stoll (Picture) Theatre (1917). Organ installed 1921 (or 1927?), replaced by The New Stoll Picture Theatre Organ (1929/30?).
Theatre closed 1957, replaced by office block with Peacock Theatre in the basement.
And see wikipedia
|
Graham7 20th Oct 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Music Masters - Blue Bird Sing Me A Song / Paprika (1928) | I have switched the sides for this, as I think that the side that had to pay a publisher's royalty would best be considered as the A side.
( I've done the same for a couple of others on this label too)
|
Graham7 20th Oct 2014 | | 78 RPMG. Jack - Will The Angels Play Their Harps For Me / St. Patrick (1930) | Slight variant added. Royalty stamp has ¾d. stamped, rather than printed.
