HBRALLAN 12th Dec 2021 | | 78 RPMTeddy Wilburn - Court Of Justice / How Would You Like To Call Me Sweetheart? (1951) | Teddy Wilburn’s GOTHAM recordings were made in one of the studio’s at Radio Station KWKH, Shreveport, Louisiana. The musicians on the session were Theodore “Teddy” Wilburn, Lester Lloyd Wilburn, Leslie Floyd Wilburn, Ralph Mayo, Floyd Kramer (sic), Jimmie Day (sic), and Mal Irby. The musicians were paid the Union Rate for the session, $41.25 per person, whilst Theodore “Teddy” Wilburn. as leader, received $84.00. Hire of the studio for the session was $40.00. That session produced four songs, “Court Of Justice”, and “How Would You Like To Call Me Sweetheart” were issued back to back on GOTHAM 413. The remaining two titles, Teddy Wilburn’s self penned “It Can’t Be Run On A Sharing Basis”, and “Daddy Blues”, written by Webb Pierce and Tillman Franks, were not issued. The princely sum of three cents per record was paid in royalties to Teddy Wilburn. The above information was taken from the Gotham files, obtained, copied, and shared, by Bruce Bastin.

HBRALLAN 18th Nov 2021 | | 78 RPMTexas Benny Doss And The Sandy Creek Gang - Round And Round We Go / I Don't Want Your Kind Of Love | The pianist on both sides of Texas Benny Doss’ ROYALTY disc is identified by Benny in the recordings as one Ted Cox. Mr Cox surfaces a year or so later as the pianist with Buster Doss’ Arkansas Playboys. It transpires that Marvin Earl “Buster” Doss was Benny Doss’ younger brother, and it was Benny who dubbed his sibling “Buster”.
Buster Doss is documented as saying that he made his first recordings for the ROYALTY label in the mid/late forties; which begs the question, does the Benny Doss record represent Buster’s recording debut, as a member of the Sandy Creek Gang, or is there another as yet undocumented ROYALTY release which is credited Buster Doss?

HBRALLAN 20th Oct 2021 | | 78 RPMSaddle Dusters - Prunella / Choo Choo Blues (1948) | Promotional photograph of The Saddle Dusters added. The SADDLE DUSTERS were Dusty Ellison, Hil Duffy, and Buddy Woody. The MELODY MIXERS, a popular music outfit (who had at least four releases on Crystal - 166, 169, 170, and 172) comprised of Hil Duffy, Buddy Woody, and one Ralph Ellison (the later I assume worked under the nom de plume Dusty Ellison when recording as The Saddle Dusters). So I guess this is a chicken or egg question, did The Saddle Dusters morph in The Melody Mixers or visa versa?
