It would seem strange that the British public would buy records in any numbers that were sung in German at that time.

kab2112 SUBS 24th Jan 2013		78 RPM Gandino - In A Monastery Garden / In A Persian Market (1930)	This, and several other 78" records that I have, have a small sticker attached with 3/4 d stamped on. This means 3 farthings or 3/4 of an old penny, and there were 240 pennies in a £1. in today's terms that amounts to about 1/4 of one pence. I can only think that it would be some sort of tax to pay on the gramophone record. I'm not sure of how much gramophone records cost in Britain about 1930. This record was released round about 1929-1931 as far as I know.

It was quite usual for British acts to cover US hits at this time. My elder brother took me to the Glasgow Empire in 1958 to see Marvin Rainwater, who was said to be part Red Indian. I was only a little boy at the time, but still remember all the words to this song.
