I did run across something in Billboard March 11, 1950, an article on p.47 "Dixieland Pace in Hwd. Upbeat" about the popularity of trad jazz bands in Los Angeles clubs: "... Ted Vesely is at Glendale's Tom-Tom". [update - The Tom Tom club had two locations: 6266 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, and 806 E. Colorado Blvd. in Glendale. International Musician July 1950 lists a new Tom Tom record label having the same address as the Glendale club] There is one more Tom Tom release (1002) featuring the same lineup.

LaurenceD SUBS 19th Aug 2019		78 RPM Johnny Lane - Ten More Miles To Go / Ten More Miles To Go "With Mule Shouts"	This appears to be a private recording. The thin flexible disc, plus the additional hole, suggests that is was probably cut directly on a home recording device. Both tracks feature Johnny accompanied by a guitar. Quite different from the version of this song released on MGM which includes additional instrumental backing and vocal chorus.

LaurenceD SUBS 5th Apr 2019		78 RPM Pop Chalee - Taos Round Dance / Taos Clown Song	Pop Chalee is certainly more known for her paintings and murals than for her musical activities, but anyway here she is as a singer. The Canyon label was founded in 1951; I found a mention of this release in a periodical "Midwest Folklore" ca. 1955, so that's the best I can narrow down the release date so far.

It's long gone now, but I recently came across two of these in a thrift store. Searched the entire store for that mirror, but it was nowhere to be found :-(

LaurenceD SUBS 31st Mar 2019		78 RPM Tommy Reynolds - Two Hearts That Pass In The Night / Everything Happens To Me (1941)	This short-lived label should not be confused with the 1930s Hit Of The Week label. This record is composed of a not-so-flexible plastic material, somewhat similar to styrene but less brittle. Lacking definite release date information, I tentatively set this to 1941, as both of these songs were released by various notable bands in that year.

LaurenceD SUBS 26th Mar 2019		78 RPM [no artist listed] - Sound Effects / Sound Effects	I cannot find any information about this record. Each side is a different series of train sounds along with a conductor calling out things such as "All aboard!" and "Lionel Express running on time!". There is also a narrator describing various features of Lionel trains. I can only speculate, but this doesn't sound like something that would be available for purchase; maybe these recordings would be played in the Lionel stores for patrons to hear.
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Mar 2019		78 RPM Henry Nathan And His Cathay Hotel Orch. - One Night Of Love / Remember My Forgotten Man (1934)	I don't have enough information to narrow down the date for this, but it must be from about the mid-1930s based on the film songs chosen. Henry Nathan (born Henry Nathanowitz) led a band in residence at the Cathay Hotel in Shanghai that was quite popular from around 1933 to 1937. After Japan occupied Shanghai, Nathan spent some time in a prison camp, and during that time led a band comprised of camp members.

Sides 3 & 4 are also from Keynote single K-548, and sides 5 & 6 are from Keynote single K-559. I tentatively based the release date on the listing at bsnpubs. All I know is that Mercury had apparently acquired the entire Keynote catalog by April or May 1948, according to a Billboard article from Feb 28, 1948, p.22.

LaurenceD SUBS 29th Nov 2018		78 RPM Georgia Gibbs - The Trolley Song / Wish You Were Waiting For Me (1944)	I don't know if Maestro Music managed to issue any additional singles; I have not found evidence of any. According to Billboard they had several Freddie Martin recordings in the can, but had to scrap the releases due to a dispute with Victor.
LaurenceD SUBS 6th Nov 2018		78 RPM [no artist listed] - The Old Scotchman's Broadcast Of Thomson's Home Run Part 1 / The Old Scotchman's Broadcast Of Thomson's Home Run Part 2	This is not the home run call that I'm used to hearing in sports highlights ("The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the Pennant!" from Russ Hodges at WMCA (New York)), but the one from the broadcast heard nationwide on LBS called by Gordon McLendon ("The Old Scotchman", and founder of LBS) (see the Wikipedia page for more about that). The entire game was recorded by LBS. This excerpt begins with a brief introduction by an unidentified narrator, then McLendon takes over with Thomson coming to the plate, and Don Newcombe about to be relieved by Ralph Branca. After the fatal blow is struck and the call is made, Gordon lets the crowd noise take over. Later, underneath the pandemonium, you can hear him say "Well, I'll be a suck-egg mule".

LaurenceD SUBS 6th Nov 2018		78 RPM Jimmie Lunceford - Margie / Like A Ship At Sea (1938)	Added labels for the original single release. 1938 sounds about right for this, but I believe that the "For Dancers Only" album (from which label 1633760 originated) was released sometime afterwards, around 1940 I think.

A different recording, presumably with updated lyrics by Al Stewart. Thanks to slholzer for mentioning the The Strachwitz Frontera Collection site, an excellent resource of info about Mexican & Mexican/American recordings.
