Compare the Specialty record with the way that one is printed. Really close. And I've been unable to put a date on it.
|
LouisSidney 21st Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMCamille Howard And Her Boy Friends - Please Don't Stay Away So Long / Million Dollar Boogie (1951) | Walter, I think this one is from Belgium, like the Mercury (sorry I couldn't answer you for that one, for technical reasons). Mercury was released in France by Barclay (Compagnie Phonographique Française) and they had a Belgian outlet, obviously. That's the first time I've seen that grey label.
As for Specialty, I've never seen a French one. Your Decca blue label could be Belgian, too :o)

LouisSidney 28th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMMuddy Waters - Honey Bee / Too Young To Know (1952) | @joehilllouis: I have a Jazz Selection catalogue supplement dated March-April 1952.
JS.782 (Duke Ellington) is listed, as well as JS.800 (Sidney Bechet) which is the highest cat# included. So is JS.751 by Muddy Waters.
Therefore, it seems reasonable to believe that JS.783 (recorded in 1951, as you said) was released in France in 1952.
