|
Russell van Hooff 29th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMMax Bygraves - True Loves And False Lovers / Cowpuncher's Cantata (1952) | Although uncredited on the record label, Al Jolson's 'Sonny Boy' is mentioned in the closing bars of the song Cowpuncher's Cantata, and thus the composers have been listed.
|
Russell van Hooff 29th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMPee Wee King - Slow Coach (Slow Poke) / The Strange Little Girl (1952) | Apparently, to get past the censors at the BBC, Pee Wee King had to re-record this song for Britain, with the lyrics changed. It seems the BBC in their wisdom, objected to 'Slow Poke'.

As soon as i find the 78 among the thousands here, i will post proper pictures of it, and that awful abortion can be removed.

Russell van Hooff 21st Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMJoe Loss - Sweet Dreams, Sweetheart / Waiting In Sweetheart Valley (1945) | This was a very poor choice of contrasting colours for His Master's Voice to use .... with fading, they are very difficult to read, and also to take nice pictures of. Although i guess this wasn't in the forefront of their minds in the 40s when they designed it ☺

|
Russell van Hooff 7th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - Beautiful Girl / After Sundown (1933) | I agree with the notes.
The only MGM film called Singing In The Rain was 1952.
For it to be on the label as such, and still have a record number used in the early 30s, it is undoubtedly a re-release.
|
Russell van Hooff 6th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMJerry Vale - Innamorata (Sweetheart) / Second Ending (1956) | Thankyou scrough
Yes, doormanperdomo, the label is an octagon.
I believe Australian CBS Coronet labels are the only octagonal label for 78s in existence.
|
Russell van Hooff 5th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby And Grace Kelly - True Love / Well Did You Evah? (1957) | Yep. 1957. Australia and New Zealand are the only places in the world that had to wait until 1957 for this record.

First pressings of this record will be titled Oh Baby Mine. Subsequent pressings changed the title.
So too the Bing Crosby version was titled I Get So Lonely (Oh Baby Mine)
Other versions call it I Get So Lonely (When I Dream About You)

Russell van Hooff 3rd Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMThe Four Guardsmen - Cool Water / Sunflower (1949) | Hello JLC135
It is in the works, but i haven't found the record yet. Its here somewhere .....
Interestingly the New Zealand pressing has A-001 and A-003 on opposing sides.
Rest assured there are literally thousands of 78s to be processed, this will be clarified, albeit perhaps not immediately.
Kind regards
Russell
Post Script
OMG OMG OMG I have found it !!!
Yes, you are absolutely correct. it is Cool Water 001 on one side, and Sunflower 002 on the other.
I will request a moderator merge these two entries if possible.
