Biography - Apollo 
USA
New York-based label founded by Ike and Bess Berman, Hy Siegel, and Sam Schneider in 1944; released R&B, gospel, jazz, doo-wop, Yiddish comedy and music, and popular dance music.
There were several series:
1) Blues, R&B, which began with 351 in 1944, and continued throughout the label's existence on 78.
2) Jazz, which began with 751 in 1944, but petered out by 1954
3) the 100 series, which started as Calypso, Comedy and Country but later concentrated on Gospel, beginning with 101 in 1946 - it continued until the demise of 78s
4) the "pop" series, which started with 1001 in 1946 but petered out about 1952
5) The "Album" series, which began in 1946
