Biography - Banner [1940s] USA New York label releasing mostly Jewish records from Jan. 1947; in 1948, they added a number of C&W releases. New York label founded in December 1946 by Sam Sellsman (Billboard, Jan. 11, 1947, p. 104) and releasing its first records in January 1947 (Billboard Jan 25, 1947, p. 103). Banner mostly produced Jewish music and Yiddish comedy records, but early on also one or two Italian-American releases. In 1948, the label expanded into C&W as well. In December 1948, VP Peter Doraine resigned and was succeeded by society band leader Arthur Ravel as the new VP for Recording, with Sam Sellsman, President, Vic Sellsman, VP Production, and Seymour Rechtzeit VP for Artists and Repertoire (Billboard, Dec. 25, 1948, p. 21). Banner reorganized again in January 1950, now apparently solely focusing on Jewish records (Billboard Jan 28, 1950, p. 40 and soon exclusively on LPs (Billboard, Dec. 23, 1950, p. 43). « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
