Biography - Black Swan USA New York-based label, founded by Harry Pace. Active from Feb. 1921-1923, the label was the first black-owned record company. With Fletcher Henderson as its music director, the label released both black concert singers like C. Carroll Clark, Antoinette Garnes, and Revella Hughes, and a series of female blues singers, such as Alberta Hunter, Trixie Smith, Katie Crippen, Lulu Whidby, and Ethel Waters.
