Biography - Capitol UK The first UK Capitol releases appeared in December 1948 under Decca license on black labels with golden text. The label color changed to purple in September 1954. In January 1955, the British company Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. (EMI) acquired Capitol Records, Inc. for $8.5 million. Only in January 1955, however, after Decca's license had run out, did the labels proclaim the new owner EMI. Around November 1956, label variants appear that show the prefix CL. with a space before the following catalog number and feature sans-serif fonts. The serif fonts and CL. without a space, however, continue to be used until April 1958, except between Oct. 1957 and April 1958 together with a Capitol logo of smaller size. The following cat#s were not used for UK Capitol releases: 13103, 13215, 13218 (1949); 13225, 13238, 13349, 13395, 13408, 13409, 13410, 13411 (1950); 13445, 13461, 13629 (1951); 13825 (1952); 13856, 13864, 13876 (1953); 14115, 14118, 14157, 14194 (1954); 14274, 14346, 14349 (1955). « Discography Edit This Biography : Biography Credits
