Biography - Capitol Americana USA Capitol's Americana series was dedicated to American folk music, which Capitol defined as Country music, Hillbilly ballads, Jazz, and Blues. A special red "Americana" label was used for the 40000 series from 40000 in May 1947 to 40120 in early June 1948. In mid-June 1948, the series name "Americana" disappeared from the labels but 40000 series releases continued. They ended with 40287 in July 1950. Between late July and October 1947, the label briefly introduced prefixes to its catalog numbers. A stood for "Americana." Prefixes started with A40020 and ended with A-40044. From late September to mid-October 1947, a hyphen separated prefix and catalog number.
